Menton! I love this place. Sometimes known for being a sleepy town of retirees, sometimes known for it’s annual Lemon Festival, and sometimes known for it’s geographic location (right along the Italian border), I think it’s one of the very prettiest stops along the regional rail.
Like Ventimiglia (next door on the Italian side) it has the unique sort of culture that only a border town can have. With a tangible mix of Italy and France coming together to make something completely it’s own, I find it to be a pretty special place.
I always love an afternoon in Menton. I can’t wait to be to be back for a visit this summer!
Summer Solstice over Mount Lycabettus, Athens Greece - Taken from a series of photos taken by my talented friend @markella_ch97 for a proposed project of mine. The Sun/Helios Perches himself and crowns Lycabettus for three days during the Summer Solstice. The very area of the Pnyx hill where these photos were taken is the site from where the ancient astronomer Meton observed the first sign of the summer solstice using Mount Lycabettus as a marker - this inspiring phenomena can still be observed just as the ancients once had. The importance of this phenomena to Athenians lead them to build a temple to Apollo/Helios on Mt Lycabettus where he would visit them and reside in for three days. #ancientastronomy #archeology #athens #greece #sunmersolstice #solstice #meton #helios #apollo #soundart #photography
