Like, Arthur is locked in a tall tower kept from his mother away from the bad, bad world. Merlin for accidentally using magic that is forbidden because the prince have been stolen since childhood and Uther blames magic and stuff. Merlin has to leave the land and while beeing chased he's happy he was able to find an empty tower only to very uncomfortably learn that it is, in fact, not empty. Merlin wants to get out of danger zone as soon as possible while Arthur is extremely owed by the lights that are flooding the sky every year on his birthday.
Because Merlin is rather amazed by the young fella and also "just to kind for his own good" so he really takes him to the Courtyard and on the way there... they fall in love.
Ps: just because I would like to have Kilghara as Maximus I'll leave it here.
