Hiccup thinks he knows Merida, until she started stealing his food.
See, theyâve been together for so long that the two of them couldnât imagine life without the other being there. Even if it was just being in the background. Their lives are so intertwined together that it became second nature for them to be together. They think they know the other like the back of their hand, until Hiccup got his driverâs license.
âAnything you want from McDonaldâs?â He asked his best friend.
âNah, Iâm not hungry.â She shrugged her shoulders.
And so Hiccup made the mistake of ordering only for himself. As soon as he gave the paper bag for Merida to hold so he could drive out of the drive thru and head back to their part of the town, that was when he first learned that maybe he doesnât know her as much as he thought. Half of his french fries were gone, and his drink was almost finished. Thank god he asked for his food before she could start on his hamburger.
âMer, what the hell?â He groaned at the sight of his food almost gone.
âThey were calling to me. What was I supposed to do, ignore them?â She argued.
The second time she stole his food was in their diner. The very diner theyâve been going to ever since they were kids. Hiccup still remembers when Merida was insistent on treating him for his birthday and how she ordered the whole menu for them. With the way she was, sometimes even he forgets how rich her family is.
âIâll have a milkshake, with extra cherry please.â He ordered as the waitress jotted it down.
âAnd you, Merida?â She asked with that chirpy voice of hers.
âIâm good, Iâm just here to study.â
âOh, thatâs rare.â
âHey!â
âThatâs what Iâve been saying too.â Hiccup teased Merida as the waitress left.
And, again, Hiccup made the mistake of leaving his milkshake with Merida when he went to the restroom. As soon as he got back, his milkshake was almost gone with the way Merida was sipping it like no tomorrow.
âMer!â He cried out.
âCouldnât help it.â
âWhat, it was calling to you too?â
At that, she grinned. âNah, I just wanted to.â
After that, Hiccup learned his lesson to not make it a third timeâs the charm, and always ordered food for Merida. Even if she was insistent that she didnât want it.

ââŚYou come around and the armor falls
Pierce the room like a cannonball
Now all we know
Is don't let go
We are alone, just you and me
Up in your room and our slates are cleanâŚâ
I ran my hands through my hair being careful not to ruin the hairdo, which was tighter than necessary and brought back bittersweet memories. I approached the mirror and inspected my figure in that tight dress that made it difficult for me to breathe, and I couldn't help but feel dĂŠjĂ vu.
The difference being that, now I am not being forced into marriage, and that this time I was able to avoid wearing the part of the dress that squeezes the life out of my head.
But as I looked at a fixed point on the floor I also realized that I was alone, the presence of my mother wasn't there to bother me. I smiled ungracefully, remembering how hard she used to comb my hair and how my only wish was not to have to go through that again.
I could still hear her voice telling me to stop complaining. Fix your posture, Merida.
I laughed soundlessly; I was really alone now.
I took a breath, still seeing my reflection, smoothed out my already perfectly straightened dress and gathered my will to go downstairs. To see my father, my brothers, and everyone. After the mysterious kidnapping of my mother, my father has become a merciless being, they say. That we must invade Berk immediately, that the Vikings have her locked up.
Vikings. They can be so handsome.
With those green eyes, that lopsided grin and unkempt hair, so endeaing, so...
âHiccup?!â After seeing his reflection behind mine I turned around so fast I almost lost my balance, and he seemed to notice it too because he came over with his hands ready to grab me.
I could almost hear his teasing reply before he said it. âOnly for you, milady.â
âAre you insane?â
âInsane because if they see you they'll kill you. You fool,â He let out a chuckle at the last, but soon after his amusement faded and he stood up straight in front of me, taking my hands in his.
âMerida, I think we both know that a senseless war is about to break out,â He arranged that big curl, simply brushed it away from my face to take my chin gently âThat's not what I want for Berk or what you want for DunBroch.â
His green eyes had the most beautiful forest inside them and could see through me easily, every secret, every imperfection.
âI hear you, dragon boy.â
âYou're the one who always said that our fate lives within us. Years ago you forged yours because you knew it was what you had to do, and I think this time we have to do the same,â he swallowed, his Adamâs apple twitching nervously. âTogether.â
Before I could ask, he cradled my face.
âLet's run away,â What? âLet's forge a better future, let our parents work things out the right way and come together to find us. It won't work if I do it alone and I think it's the only solution.â
My lost eyes moved between his, shifting from one to another trying to make sense of what he was saying.
âMy father won't listen, and I know that after what happened to your mother, neither will yours. There will be more deaths than we can count if we don't do something,â He looked down at my mouth and pressed the sides of my lips with his thumbs. âI ask this of you as future chief, and as Hiccup. Your majesty, future queen, Merida. Letâs run. Letâs seek peace and find it together, be brave with me.â
I stared at him for a couple more seconds and broke away; quickly looking around the room. Throwing things behind me and shuffling everything.
Paper, paper, paper.
I could feel his spirits dropping from where he had frozen.
âAh, you beauty!â I quickly dipped the quill in ink, picked up the sheet and rested it on Hiccup's back just for the hell of it.
I marked the final dot hard and he turned around.
âWhere did you hide Toothless?â
He smiled, one of the most genuine smiles I had ever seen on him, and told me he was waiting for us on the terrace.
I didn't hesitate to ask him to help me get out of this monstrous dress and I wanted to roll my eyes when he was careful not to tear it. I put on the dark one I love so much, took my cloak, bow and arrows and left the note where they would easily see it.
I was already heading for the door when Hiccup turned me around, giving me a chaste kiss before taking my hand to leave my room together.
You didn't believe me when I told you mom was a bear, but believe me now. The Vikings don't have her, and we disappeared together by choice. If you start the war, you will never see us again.
Show this to Stoic, his son wants a better future for Berk than this.
September is almost upon us and you know what that means ... MERICCUP MONTH!! Who's excited?? There will only be four prompts this year as, unfortunately, I did not give as much thought into the prompts this year due to the limited amount of time I have (plus, probably dealing a bit with depression, thinking maybe seasonal depression, so cannot wait for autumn to get here), but, the sky's the limit!! If you just want to revisit old prompts you never got around to, or finish that piece you didn't for previous years, this is the time to do it!! Let's breathe some life back into this fandom!! And remember, have fun!! So, without further ado, the prompts ...
Week 1 - Movies
Week 2 - Music
Week 3 - Fairy Tales
Week 4 - AUs
And it doesn't matter when you post it, just post it using the tags #mericcupmonth and #mericcupmonth22 as the first two so that I can see them!! Have fun!!
Legends tell of a mystical creature far more dangerous than human kind has ever seen. A dragon is what they call them. The fierce beasts that ruled the sky and brought chaos and havoc wherever they went. However, itâs been years since theyâve last roamed the earth. And slowly, the legends turned into fairy tales, and fairy tales turned into bedtime stories to scare children in the night.
Everyone moved on and, eventually, forgot about them. Everyone except for Hiccup, the blacksmith, and Merida, the princess of Dunbroch. Having been fascinated of dragons ever since they were young, the two have been gathering as much information as they can get about the mystical creature that is believed to be long gone. However, they believe otherwise.
They set off on a forbidden journey after running away from everything they knew just to prove that dragons do exist, that dragons are still out there somewhere, perhaps hibernating from the world (Hiccupâs theory). But when tragedy strikes and the two are separated, Hiccup finds himself lost and alone in a forest rumored to be cursed.
There, he finds himself face to face with the very creature he and Merida have been searching for.
for @allthingsmericcupâs event: week 3 Fairytales
Merida and Hiccup think that itâs going to be another school year with nothing much happening. Only this time, they made plans, or rather, a bucket list of what to do. Anything really to keep them occupied and have fun amongst the sea of essays and assignments. After all, itâs just another year with the same routine, right?
Wrong.
When the famous Jack Frost, the boy who lived, entered Hogwarts, nothing was ever the same anymore. Thrown into a world of adventures, dangers that lurk just around the corner, and a war brewing right underneath everyoneâs noses, Merida and Hiccup must do what they can to survive each year until everything ends.
After all, they werenât the type to let something like the final battle at Hogwarts stop them in their tracks.

Hiccupâs words echoed around the sunlit room. Their apartment was currently a shade of orange thanks to the sunset on the horizon. And while it made everything feel warm, that wasnât why Merida felt that way all over.
It was his words that sent a wave of warmth throughout her body. It was surprising, and yet welcoming with a sense of familiarity nonetheless. Almost as if itâs been happening a while and she only noticed it in full bloom now.
They were bickering in the living room moments ago, their homework and projects forgotten on the coffee table. Merida was insisting that she can fix things up just fine without his help, but Hiccup still wanted to offer it nonetheless. And that was when he said his line. That all so warming line, it made Merida speechless.
Hiccup stared at her like she was someone important, and she didnât know what to do now that she was aware of it. So, instead of brushing it off with a joke, she followed her heart and said the one thing that she truly felt as well.
Merida and Hiccup have been sharing fairytales for almost their whole lives. Theyâd parade through town and venture through the forest, pretending they were a part of it while looking for their happily ever after. Sometimes it was the scones theyâd buy at the bakery at the end of the day, and sometimes it was Hiccupâs bed theyâd fall into after a long day.
Now grown up into young adults, the two didnât have as much time as before to hang out together. What with Merida and her princess duties, and Hiccup with his blacksmith duties. Slowly, they were drifting apart, and Merida didnât like it. She wanted things to go back as they once were, and this led her to the forest where a witch greeted her.
âMake your wish, and Iâll make it come true. But beware for there is always a price in exchange.â
After making her wish, everything went exactly the way Merida wanted. Except, as the days go by, the more Hiccupâs memories of them slowly fades away. Even everyone else as well, almost as if Merida was being erased from existence. And now she must find a way to break her wish as she races against time before itâs too late.

âWhen youâre in love with someone, you take on the whole package. Itâs messy, but the mess of life is the good thing. The special thing about relationships is taking on the good and the bad and the messy aspects.â
- Vance Joy
Hiccup read the mini description underneath the lyrics again.Â
Vance Joyâs words echoed in his head as a certain someone popped up and played memories of them together. Her loud laugh that shakes the whole room, her unruly hair that gets caught up in between his fingers every time he tries to brush it, and her blast of freckles that looked like stars captured on her skin.
It was like she made it her intention to leave her trail of mess wherever she went. May it be in Hiccupâs room when she wants to borrow some comics, or in the playground as she plays along with all the kids running up to her in excitement. Whether she knew it or not, she always left a mark that screamed she was here. That she lived in the moment with her wild heart and her unpredictable next moves.
Sometimes, Hiccup found it surprising that someone as loud and free as her was with him. At times, they were opposites with her heading into the problem straight on, while heâd step back and calculate the best move. But there were also times when they were the same, most especially when it involved exploring the world (and who gets to grab the french fries first).
âWhatcha reading?â Merida plopped down beside Hiccup on the couch.
âJust. Something.â Hiccup tried to shield his cellphone screen. âYouâll find it boring, I guarantee it.â
âThatâs a bold assumption. Lemme see it for myself!â
After a few mishaps with lots of tickling and screaming, and maybe even threatening to destroy a gundam seed model, Merida finally had his cellphone in her hand. She expected something nerdy like his homework, or maybe even a thorough step by step on how to raise a cat (he recently adopted one and named him Toothless), but instead she found herself looking at the lyrics of âMess is Mineâ by Vance Joy.
âFunny, I just found this song yesterday and thought of you.â Merida chuckled as she tossed back his cellphone to him.
âYou- you thought of me?â Hiccup asked, unsure if he heard it right.
âYeah. Why do you sound surprised?â
âBecause I thought of you too.â
They stared at each other, until they broke into a grin. They then spent the rest of the afternoon teasing each other (âDoes this make you think of me too, dragon boy?â) and sharing music as they blasted them on the speakers.
