I tried some visible mending for one of my wool socks that have been in a box of shame for years. Better whole that perfect! But I am happy to have them back in my wardrobe. (The blue is some older mending my mom made.
The technique I used was a sort of darning.
Today I spent some time mending socks - I did three pairs and it's definitely a worthwhile task, if a little monotonous. It's taking something useful and making it last, these socks could go in a landfill, but instead they go back on a foot for another round.
Tried out a new kind of mending patch for knits! You just… knit a patch right over the hole. I think it turned out quite well, and I hope it holds up well. Very quick to do!

At what point do you stop using a sock?
When I no longer like it/get bored with the design
When I have too many socks, I weed out my least liked
When it loses its pair
When it causes me inconvenience (slips or loses elasticity)
When it feels bad on my foot (grip too strong or lost texture)
When I cannot possibly pair it with any other color sock
When it's so stained it no longer comes off in the wash
When it gets a hole
When the holes are too many to mend efficiently
When the material itself gets too worn and thin to be mended anymore
