Kurama x Midori (my OC)
The sun had just barely slipped over the horizon when I woke. Still bleary eyed and foggy from sleep, I glance over to the right only to give a faint smile and quiet chuckle at the sight. Midori was sprawled beneath the blankets, ink black hair a wild cloud around her head as she slumbered on. Dusky shadows painted over the skin of her arms, mouth open to emit soft snores. Amusedly I noticed that one leg was thrown haphazardly over my own. Fortunately Midori was a heavy sleeper, especially now that she took the tonics I made for her to help her have dreamless nights.
Gingerly I shifted her thigh, bare until the hem of her pajama shorts, and slipped out of bed. The digital clock glowing on the bedside table displayed 4:03 am, signifying that she would need to wake up for work in thirty minutes. Coffee burst to the forefront of my mind and I silently walked into the kitchen. Caffeination was an important part of the process of growing your own functional Midori, or so she had explained to me on numerous occasions.Â
The apartment was silent in the rising morning and I couldnât help but let my thoughts wander. We had come such a long way together. If anyone had told me in the beginning that I would be moving in with her I would have thought them brain damaged. At first I thought she was reckless, wild and a danger to herself. I had thought that she wasnât that observant. At first.
âYou donât have very many friends, do you?â
One simple sentence was enough to make me think more of her. To reexamine her more closely. Of course I had been suspicious of her, wondered if she was a demon hunter at first but that was gradually shown to not be true. But that single question had forced me to reconsider most of what I had thought about her. Everyone I had met in school assumed I had a lot of friends because of my popularity. But without even trying she could see through that.
The fragrant, earthy smell of coffee permeated the air, the maker bubbling away as it funneled into the pot. The scent would likely be enough to rouse Midori shortly, so I stepped onto the patio to tend to my plants. The pleasant smell of lavender and rosemary had steeped into the air and it brought an even deeper sense of calm. Midori had begged me to grow some of our own spices on the patio and the lavender was a specific request from her.
When I finished and went back inside the apartment, my partner was posted in front of the coffee pot, pouring out a fresh mug. Her eyes were still bleary with sleep, movements sluggish as she struggled to pull herself from the grips of lethargy. I couldnât help but smile, seeing her standing there hazy with sleep, clad in a matching set of fox pajamas. I quietly approached her, settling my arm around her shoulders and pressed a kiss to her temple.
âMorning KuramaâŚâ she murmured, cradling the hot coffee in her hands closely.
I hummed with soft pleasure when Midori gently leaned into my touch. The sight of her so content in my embrace made me linger longer than I had planned. But she always had a habit of throwing off my plans. She proved that when she had managed to make it to the Dark Tournament on her own. It was reckless. It was dangerous. It was impossibly stupid.
It was so very Midori.
Never once had I ever thought I would find recklessness endearing but she had made that happen. As she shrugged out from underneath my arm and shuffled over to the fridge, I pondered all the times she had been reckless but for the sake of others. Kaoru had been the first one to come to mind when she willingly involved herself with a stalker and broke into the school just to track her down. And then her first encounter with Hiei, a demon she knew that could and would kill her for her interference.Â
I couldnât help but smile faintly. I think she had grown on Hiei even, albeit unwillingly.
âWhacha smilinâ about?â she mumbled, pouring the creamer into her coffee.
âJust some memories.âÂ
Midori quirked a brow at me over the rim of her mug, âThose old man genes coming out then? You thinking about the good old days?â
âI hardly think you are in any position to accuse me of being old.â
âIâm a spring chicken thank you very much!â she took a long drink of her caffeinated beverage and then gave a pleased groan, âYour coffee in the morning is always the best. Thanks.â
âYou donât need to thank me. Itâs the only way I can get you out of bed.â
Midori glared at me but said nothing, still sleepily nursing her drink. It was always so amusing to pick on her because she never failed to rise to the bait, even when she knew I was doing it on purpose. A part of her charm, I would say. With a quiet but playful smile, I eyed her sleepwear.
âNice pajamas.â
A sleepy smile emerged from her then, âI thought you might appreciate them.â
âI canât say that I donât.â
âGood. And now I always have you on me.â
It was my turn to arch my brow at her, amusement coloring my face at her slip of the tongue. Midori blinked at me owlishly, confusion clear in her expression as she tried to interpret my amusement. Then realization dawned on her face and then she rolled her eyes with a groan.
âYou know what I meant! Donât make it weird.â
I decided to spare her and change the subject, âWould you like me to make you breakfast?â
âOooh ye-wait. No I know we only just moved in together but if you do that Iâm gonna start expecting you to do it all the time.â
âI donât mind. Besides, Iâm not entirely certain I trust you to have anything healthy or nourishing in the morning. Or you even having breakfast at all.â
Midori stared at me silently for a few moments, âYou know itâs still alarming to see how much youâve figured me out.â
âI believe weâve discussed how you arenât as closed of a book as you would like to believe.âÂ
âThatâs just to youâŚâ She muttered, taking a drink of her steaming cup of coffee.
âI can concede that.â I told her in amusement.
Bright green eyes, still hazy with lethargy, studied me thoughtfully. Her hands still cradled the warm mug, clutching it almost like a life line with slender fingers. Hands that were not afraid to get bloody. Hands that could kill, if she wished. I think I first realized that my feelings for Midori were beyond friendship when she saved me at the Dark Tournament. When she fought that snake demon on her own and nearly died in the process. On deathâs door and she was still cracking jokes, albeit weakly.
âWell, I definitely wonât turn down breakfast if youâre offering!âÂ
I smiled as she shuffled over to the bar on the other side of the counter, hopping up onto a barstool, âWhat would you like?â
âHmmmm, surprise me! You know what kind of stuff I like by this point!â
An omelette came to mind immediately, so I started pulling out a skillet, a cutting board and a knife. I could feel Midoriâs eyes on me as I moved to the fridge, peering in to search for appropriate vegetables. I brought them all to the cutting board, setting to work on the onion first, ready to chop up enough for both of us. It would be beneficial for me to cook myself breakfast as well. And I couldnât deny that I would enjoy eating with her.
âDo you see something that interests you, Midori?â I asked in amusement at her staring, making sure to speak with a flirtatious tone to tease her.
She didnât seem to notice my tone and continued to stare thoughtfully before cracking a wide, toothy grin, âOh donât mind me. Iâm just trying to picture you in a pink frilly apron.â
âYou never change, do you?â
âWould you ever want me to?â
âNo, I suppose I wouldnât.â
Midori gave a playful gasp, slapping her hand over her heart. Her expression was one of mock affront as she pretended to swoon in her seat. I chuckled under my breath, focusing back on the onions I was chopping, eyes starting to sting the more I cut.
âYou suppose? Kurama you mean you arenât sure? What am I to you?â
âAs of this moment? A source of amusement.â
Midori scowled at me but it was not in earnest and I shifted the onions to the side and moved to chop a tomato next. She was steadily waking up so that meant that she was almost through her cup of coffee. However I knew it was likely that she would grab a second one as her caffeine dependency had been rising for quite some time. I would have to work on breaking her habit. Or at the very least convert her to a cup of green tea in the morning or something similar.
âWe only just moved in together and you are already doing me like this! Iâm leaving you for another gorgeous demon!â
âGorgeous, am I?â
âOh donât even play. Youâre a very pretty man and you know it.â she waved her hand dismissively at me, âEverytime we go out together Iâm pretty sure all of the girls start scheming to have me assassinated.â
âI hope you realize that I get similar looks from men when Iâm out with you.â
The shock that washed over her face then was genuine. Midori often spoke and acted like she was so confident of herself but moments like this reminded me that she still had plenty of doubts about herself. Including but not limited to her beauty. It was not an exaggeration to state that she drew attention anytime we went out together.
âWait, what?â
âAre you really so surprised? You get a lot of looks from men everytime. A few have actually tried to approach us to speak to you.â
âSeriously?! How come I never saw them?â
I gave her an innocent smile, âI guess they simply thought better of speaking to a young woman already in a relationship.â
Midori narrowed her eyes suspiciously at me, âYou gave them one of your scary looks, didnât you?â
âIâm sure I have no idea what you mean.â
Before I transferred the onions into the skillet to carmelize, I caught sight of her smile. She always did seem to like when I got possessive of her. But she also appreciated my efforts because Midori wasnât overly fond of strangers approaching her to flirt. I cast my eyes to the time on the microwave before looking back to my partner.
âDonât you need to be getting dressed?â
She huffed, âFine, fine. I guess youâre right.â
Midori slid off of the stool with a deceptive grace, leaving her empty mug abandoned on the counter. Before going to get ready, she shuffled over to me, turning my face towards her with a single hand. She gave me just a moment to stare at her before pressing a firm but chaste kiss to my lips before leaving to get dressed. I turned back to the vegetables I was cooking as she vanished back into the bedroom. The distant hiss of the shower kicked to life as I tended to breakfast. Fortunately Midori had developed the ability to shower quickly on her work days, though she used to be pretty bad about getting out in a reasonable time.Â
This was never where I had anticipated my life to go. For years my plan had only been to survive in human world and then make my escape back to demon world. Yet now the two worlds were intermingled, demons and humans coexisting regularly. And there I was, moved in with a human woman that I was calling my girlfriend. I still hadnât quite adjusted to that but mother was ecstatic with this development. She had always been fond of Midori. Domestic bliss was not something I had ever expected to come to my lifeâŚ

So iâve been on a bit of a kick lately. And well. I have decided to make some more drinks from my personal universe. Because of a mood i have had recently called the âCheeki Breekiâ where i have wanted to consume massive . . . stupidly copious amounts of alcohol, i present to you the absolute final word on what the Dracicannan people view as PURE alcohol. If you have not seen the earlier creation i have made, check [ Here ] for my recipe for making the Dracicannai GorâKitan Cider. As a warning, this drink contains STUPID amounts of Alcohol. Do not drink it all in one go. Do not drink more than one. Moderation is absolutely advised. And now letâs get to a description of it, and the recipe ^ ^
âKretoâNoto Shine: If there was ever to be a drink that could get as close to the âPan-Galactic Gargle Blasterâ in the history of any race across the galaxies, this is absolutely it. KretâNoto Shine, sometimes known as KretoâNoto Glimmer or just simply KretoâNoto, is a very strong alcohol. The distillation process begins with the gathering of native Dracicannai herbs and mushrooms into a blend known as Korcha. Instead of drying the mixture it is instead mashed into a pulp and stuck in a carved stone bowl, in a cave, in the mountains next to open sources of Elem-Stone or E-365. The bowl is first placed in the middle of a ring of Elem-Stones and under a slow trickling stream of water. After several months, the bowl is removed and the contents are then put through a distillation process similar to Rum or Whiskey.
While Korcha tastes similar to Matcha or Green Tea from earth, KretoâNoto tastes nowhere similar to it. It instead has a slightly sweet taste to it but also with a hint of what seems to be licorice to the concoction. However it is the strong alcohol content to the drink that gives it the name of âThe Green Bonfireâ. It is comparable to Moonshine but far more pleasurable and alluring than the Human made rotgut. This drink is very rare and is often viewed as a precious commodity to several races. A single bottle of this substance could even buy your way into at least one, if not several royal parties on distant planets. As such it has become a popular and highly sought after export. And like many highly alcoholic exports it is considered heavily illegal in certain regions of space. If you ever get your hands on this substance it is advised to drink it slowly and with caution.
This drink could likely set your soul ablaze.â
-How to make your own KretoâNoto Shine-
Ingredients:
A bottle or can of Normal Mountain Dew
Some Absinthe
Some clear Moonshine
Some Aged Rum (Must not be Black Rum)
Some Melon Liquor
Directions:
Use a glass about the size i have shown above in the picture. It is not recommended that you use a bigger glass. Trust me on this. Your glass should be close to half the size of a normal drinking glass. Do not attempt with anything larger.
Fill the glass half full with crushed ice.
Add in about half a shot full of Moonshine into the glass.
Add in almost 75% or half a shot and a quarter of Absinthe into the glass
Add an almost full shot of Aged Rum into the glass
Add a full shot and a quarter of a shot of Melon Liquor into the glass. The rum and Melon Liquor will dampen the blow from the rest of the ingredients, and bring out the flavor/color of the drink.
Add in Mountain Dew to the rest of the glass, or until practically full. Try not to add too much. You can use the rest later to add to the drink (highly recommended)
Stir your glass with the back end of a spoon and enjoy once mixed!
This is probably the most alcohol you may ever consume in your lifetime. However i am also highly excited at how well this drink came out! I was halfway afraid that none of this would mix well and that there would be âwavesâ to everything when making this drink. To my absolute shock and joy everything blended together smoothly. There will be a âkickâ to it on the first go. However it will be a smooth kick, not at all like Moonshine or Absinthe. It will be a very pleasant and surprising motion that will make you have a small jig in delight of how well it came together. Sometimes itâs stuff like this that make me the most happy with how well it all comes together. If youâre not fond of anything remotely tasting like Licorice, give this a hard pass. There is that taste to the drink, and that mostly comes from the Absinthe. However everything else levels the flavor out and it is a surprisingly good mixture. Do note that you should not drink more than one. After having the one drink i was completely intoxicated. And that was pretty much after half the drink was done. So drink with moderation and caution!
Also, Yes, it will be a cloudy green colored drink, and probably the greenest thing you will ever consume. But thatâs what makes it good~
For my YYH peeps that are following my fic, Melon Liquor! It is up now! Not as long as I would like it to be but I was able to bring up some Shade lore and stuff OuO Hope you enjoy!
You know, I had littered in a hint on something of Shade culture in this chapter and it would be fully revealed and explained later. But I forgot to write it down and now I donât remember what I meant by it. Guess Iâll be working that out later! xD

So I saw ur looking for asks? I was wondering how that conversation between Yomi and Kurama went down where Yomi "already learned that I need to from Kurama." When talking to Midori about her and Kurama's relationship? I'd like a full scene but bullet points or a summary or anything could work instead!âş
I can take a crack at it! I never really thought about what happened in depth. I just knew that Yomi could tell how angry Kurama was that he was interested in Midori.
xxxxxxxx
âYou seem displeased, Kurama.â Yomi noted, âI figured youâd be happy that I brought a familiar face here. You certainly seemed...attached to Midori.â
The red-headâs face held a pointedly passive expression, no emotions creeping in to line his brow or curve his mouth. To many, he would seem unbothered, placid in his mood but to Yomi he could feel the way his energy had stilled around him. It was much like how an animal will tense and hold themselves motionless, preparing for the attack.
âWhy did you bring her here?â Kurama asked quietly.
âI had thought that you might grow home sick in your time here. Youâve grown quite fond of the Human World, havenât you? Company would do you good and she certainly seems to be your favorite.â
The glare that Kurama gave was venomous, âSend her back.â
Yomi laughed, âYouâre furious. I can feel the heat of your eyes on me.â
âSend her back.â
The blind demon king ignored him, âI canât say Iâm surprised though. How long has it been since you shared a kiss with someone? The Kurama I remember didnât get attached and yet something about her caught your eye. She must be special. I suppose she is a....woman of unusual circumstances.â
â...What are you intending to do with her?â
Yomiâs smile was polite but pleased, âDo with her? Why nothing, Kurama. She was brought here for you. Iâm sure youâll do what you need to keep her safe.â

Since I got brought onto the subject of projects and writing, Iâm currently trying to lay out some lore for Shade demons! OuO Or maybe itâs not lore but culture, rather? EITHERWAY, IâM DEVELOPING SHIT FOR SHADE DEMONS. :D
