Lunch at Humble Rays in Melbourne 🍴

On Friday night, Brian and I decided to go carb crazy and have dinner at Trattoria Emilia, a bustling Italian diner off a quiet CBD laneway.

On special, they had a black Tasmanian truffle ravioli. In my excitement, I ate all the truffles too quickly and ended up with just a plate of regular ravioli.

We also had one of the best antipasta plates I’ve ever eaten. Instead of the usual routine of cured meats, olives and grilled vegetables, they served us perfect bite-sized portions of arancini balls, sardine crostini, and something that tasted like mini-lasagna.

Before Lindy West, Hanna and I grabbed dinner at Supernormal, a new Asian small plates bar on Flinders Lane that offered the perfect #basicbitch dinner before our evening of feminist empowerment.  We ate the following: 

Tuna sashimi, daikon, cucumber, fried wonton, and plum

Prawn and chicken dumpling with chili-vinegar sauce

Tomato salad, yuzukosho, and silken tofu. PSA: Silken tofu is impossible to eat with chopsticks. 

Broccolini with white miso and furkikake.

Rose all day

Last Saturday, Brian woke up from a several hour long nap following his red-eye back from Singapore and declared that he needed Korean BBQ. 

When we arrived at G2 Korean, I realized I had thought I had Korean BBQ before but had really only had Mongolian BBQ (RIP, B.D.’S in Bethesda). So, the novelty of cooking my own meat over a mini-charcoal grill proved to be a new experience.

The place was packed, always a good sign, and the menu featured multiple cuts of Wagyu, pork belly, and seafood. We got an assortment of high-quality meats, with Brian going a bit crazy with the ordering. I also had my first ever Soju drinking experience, which is a rice-based spirit that makes South Korea the biggest liquor drinking country in the world.
