Do not take me wrong, angst and tragedy spawn the most beautiful, meaningful and deep forms of art. That being said, although tragedy is what makes Meier more beautiful, he would indeed need saving from his dismal future.
Not only did he lost his beloved, he most also face the perpetual threat of a price on his head. He doesn't deserve to be hunted only because of his nature. He must also face peril among his own kind. I've always sympathized with vampires, just as I would with any unfairly persecuted predatory species (wolves, sharks, etc)
