RWBY Christmas Tales Anthology
A Special Gift
Oscar cuddled up close to Yang in the bedsheets and started kissing her shoulder.
Oscar: Merry Christmas, honey~
Yang: *sleepily* Mmmm, Merry Christmas sweetie~ *turns to Oscar*
Oscar: You know what this means? *grabs mistletoe from under the bed* It's time for your gift.
Yang: Oooooh~ Can't wait.
Suddenly, the door to the bedroom opened and Mei leaped on the bed, squealing with joy.
Mei: Mommy, daddy! Get up! Get up! It's Christmas!
Yang: Okay, okay, *laughs* We're up!
Oscar: *chuckles* Merry Christmas, little darling. *picks up Mei*
Mei: *hugs Oscar*
Oscar: So who's ready to open presents?
Mei: *raises hand* Me! Me! Me!
Yang: Woah, hold your horses. Not before mommy's famous hot chocolates.
Mei: With extra marshmellows?
Yang: Always. *boops Mei's nose*
[Living Room]
Mei was bouncing in her seat as Yang and Oscar came in with hot chocolates and lemon doughnuts.
Yang: *pats Mei's head* Easy there, you don't wanna burn yourself.
Mei: Ooooh, wait! I almost forgot your presents!
Oscar: Oh? You got us presents?
Mei: Mmhmm! Mmhmm! Hold on! *runs to the tree*
Oscar and Yang sat on the sofa and waited to receive their gifts. For Yang, their daughter gave her special plant; a flameheart flower encased in a glass dome. For Oscar, he recieved a crudely hand-crafted diorama of a knight fighting against Grimm.
Oscar: ...woah! This is wonderful!
Yang: Mei, where did you get these?
Mei: I made them in school! *beams* That flower took a lot of work. Mrs Ren helped me a ton!
Yang: Awwww. Well I love it. Thank you. *kisses Mei*
Oscar: Now it's your turn, sweetie! *gives Mei's present*
Mei tore off the wrapping as quick as she could and gasped. It was a book with a picture of a red dragon in front of it, sleeping upon piles upon piles of gold coins. Written in black was the title The Hobbit. Mei's eyes sparkled.
Mei: Woah!!! This is so cool! Thanks daddy! *hugs Oscar*
Oscar: You're welcome!! *hugs Mei tight*
As they broke the hug, Yang noticed that Oscar was getting a little a teary.
Yang: Everything okay?
Oscar: Huh? Oh... yeah. *wipes tear*
Mei: Daddy?
Oscar: It's okay, Mei. This book once belonged to a dear friend of mine. I still think about him sometimes.
Mei: Was a he good friend?
Oscar: *nods* Yeah. You know, he was also a wizard. A very powerful one at that.
Mei: *wide eyes* Really?
Oscar: Yes. *takes book* Kinda like the one is this book. *smiles* Want me to read it to you?
Mei: Yay!!!!
Yang: Come on, Mei. Up you get.
Mei jumped onto her mother's lap and snuggled up in the blanket and Oscar laid back and opened the book.
Oscar: In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
