Black Cat
Inspiration From This Lovely Fanart:
a bunch peter & loki fanart for @doitwritenow ‘s fic. and some bonus ironstrange ❤
It had been a problem ever since Loki was a child and his Mother had first taught him how to shapeshift. He didn't know why it started to happen. He was very advanced in magic. One of the best mages any realm had ever seen in fact. But still, he wasn't able to fix this particular little problem.
Whenever someone he cared about got hurt, he turned into...a cat. A fluffy black cat with big green eyes, soft triangular ears and a poofy black tail.
It was infuriating.
⚠️Warnings: Light Angst, Magic Mishaps, Minor Injury⚠️
Enjoy 💚❤

Loki had...a problem.
He wasn't sure why it happened, it just...did?
It had been a problem ever since Loki was a child and his Mother had first taught him how to shapeshift. He didn't know why it started to happen. He was very advanced in magic. One of the best mages any realm had ever seen in fact. But still, he wasn't able to fix this particular little problem.
Whenever someone he cared about got hurt, he turned into...a cat. A fluffy black cat with big green eyes, soft triangular ears and a poofy black tail.
It was infuriating.
At first, he hadn't minded so much. Why would he? He had little to no friends in his youth, no one to care for. The only person he ever had to watch out for was his imbecile of a Brother, Thor who seemed prone to getting himself hurt just by walking down the palace stairs. Otherwise, he needn't worry.
That was, until he met Peter Parker.
Loki had never met a mortal that got into as much trouble as Peter did. Loki was surprised Peter had managed to survive so long without having yet been killed by himself or another. But then, Peter was a superhero like his adopted parents, equipped with super strength, hearing, senses and whatever else the apparent radioactive spider had given him with its bite.
But still, how many heart attacks had Loki had to endure for this mortal?
He'd lost count.
Worst of all were Loki's very strong (and very obvious as well to everyone but Peter it seemed) feelings he was nursing for the mortal. It was ridiculous! How could he, Loki, a god, fall for a mortal? It was absolutely absurd!
And yet, Loki couldn't help but look out for Peter whenever they were called out for missions, Tony giving him death glares whenever he caught Loki sneaking glances at his son. Despite the Avengers knowing Loki had not been himself when he had attacked Earth, there were some who still did not trust him.
He did not blame them.
Peter was the only one who hadn't treated him like a killer, instead smiling brightly to a caught off guard Loki. That smile had probably been the first thing Loki had fallen in love with.
But that wasn't important. The reason he was even thinking about all of this to begin with was because, well...
He was stuck. As a goddamn cat yet again.
Curse his life. First his so-called Father reduced him to his teenage form of sixteen and then to complete his humiliation, sending him to 'make amends' to the Avenging hero's. Now this.
Loki weaved in and out of the Avengers legs, ignoring his current state and what the other's would think about it. Because he was hurt.
Peter was hurt.
Loki made it to where Tony was knelt down beside Peter, frantically looking him over. The boy's mask was off, eyes closed with a large gash across his forehead. Loki's stomach churned, heart clenching painfully at the sight.
He zipped forward, slipping between Tony's hand's who yelped in shock before he pressed himself close to Peter's steadily rising and falling chest. He curled up into a ball, tucking his head under Peter's chin and glared at the other's in defiance. He could feel Peter's breath tickling his ears which flicked at the mild irritation but he couldn't care less because it reminded him that Peter was breathing and alive.
"Um," Tony mumbled as he stared wide-eyed at Loki. "Does this cat, uh, belong to anyone?"
Loki bristled at the thought of anyone believing they owned him, fur sticking up along his back as he hissed, a clear threat for Stark to shut his mouth.
Tony seemed to get the message (lucky for him as Loki's claws were sharp) as he raised his hands in surrender. "Okay then. Feisty Kitty."
Oh, he was going to pay dearly for that one.
Tony turned his head, completely missing Loki's death glare as he spoke to Rogers. "We should get him back to the tower to Bruce. Pete seems okay. Banged up a bit but we better be sure."
Steve nodded, moving forward to pick Peter up but Loki refused to be separated so easily and uncurled from his ball to leap onto Peter's stomach and settled down once more, giving Steve a level look.
Steve raised an eyebrow but said nothing as he crouched down, slipping his arms under Peter while completely ignoring Loki before lifting the spiderling into his arms, Loki digging his claws into the fabric of Peter's suit so as to not fall off.
Tony went to say something about it but Steve only shook his head before he could say anything. "Tony, who's missing here?'
Tony eyebrows knitted together as he glanced around at the other's, mouth pulled down in a frown before his eyes lit in realization as he looked at Loki once more. "Oh, shit. That's...?"
Steve rolled his eyes. "For a genius, you're really slow sometimes. And language."
"I was busy worrying about our son!" Tony protested as he marched after them with a huff.
Loki smirked to himself. Well, he tried to as much as he could in this form.
...
Peter blinked his eyes open feeling warm and content. He didn't really want to wake up. He could easily drift back to sleep if he wanted to.
Except that something soft and furry kept whacking him in the face repeatedly.
Peter sat up, turning his head to see...a black cat?
The cat was clearly fast asleep, curled up around where Peter's head had been moment's ago. How it had gotten there, Peter didn't know. But...it was so fluffy.
Peter chewed at his lip, reaching out a hesitant hand and gently brushed his fingers across the top of the cat's head, right between its ears. The cat unconsciously leaned up into the touch, eyes still closed as it let out a small mew of pleasure.
Peter couldn't contain his smile as he ran his hand down the cat's furry back, holding his breath when the cat wriggled around, rolling onto its back. Peter hesitated a moment before reaching out once more, pressing his fingers to the cat's furry tummy. He grinned when he heard the telltale sound of deep purring, scratching more insistently. He never wanted it to end.
But unfortunately, the cat's eyes finally blinked open, the purring stopping abruptly when those green eyes were set on Peter's cinnamon brown one's. Peter's breath catched in his throat, recognizing those eyes from anywhere. "Loki?"
The cat meowed, scrambling onto its, his, feet because Peter had no doubt in his mind that this wasn't Loki.
"Why are you like that?" Peter wondered aloud, looking over the cat with open curiosity.
Loki meowed, drawing closer to the teen before he leaped up into Peter's lap, pressing his paws up against Peter's chest. Green eyes narrowed as they inspected Peter's face, seeming to search for something.
Peter only smiled, reaching up a hand to run through Loki's soft fur, feeling how Loki's melted into the touch. "I'm okay. Just a little bruised. But I heal fast anyway, remember?"
Loki didn't look convinced, eyes skeptical.
Peter rolled his own before he leaned down, pressing a kiss to Loki's small nose. "I promise. I'm okay, Loki."
Loki was blinking repeatedly as if he wasn't sure what just happened before he wrinkled up his nose, seeming to frown. Peter giggled at the sight. Loki mewed, batting a paw to Peter's face. Peter only giggled more, knowing Loki wanted payback for the playful kiss. So he leaned back down, letting Loki reach his head up, ears perked up as he brought his face close to Peter's and—️
—and suddenly Peter had a lapful of Mischief god, Loki's lips pressed to his own.
Peter squeaked in surprise but didn't push Loki away. In fact, he had barely processed what was happening before he was leaning into it, reaching up to thread his fingers through Loki's short black hair as his eyes slipped shut, his lips moving against Loki's.
He'd been dreaming about this forever. He could barely believe it was happening. Was he dreaming? Was he dead?!
Peter found that he didn't care. So long as this never ended.
But all too soon, Loki was drawing away with a gasp, nearly tumbling back out of Peter's lap if the other teen hadn't already been holding onto him. "I-I am terribly sorry. I'm so sorry, Peter. I have no excuse. I shouldn't have...I should never have...I-I should leave—"
"No, wait. Hold on," Peter said quickly before Loki could vanish into thin air like he did. "What makes you think you have to apologize for that?"
Loki licked his lips, eyes both fearful and worried. "Because I...I kissed you. I should never have done that. It wasn't fair on you to burden you with the knowledge that..."
"You like me?" Peter finished, Loki giving a small nod. "Did it seem like I didn't want to kiss you?"
"W-well—" Loki paused, blinking a few times, a crease appearing between his eyebrows. "You...you kissed me back."
Peter smiled sadly at Loki's wonderous tone as if he couldn't believe something so small and simple could happen to someone like him. Because Loki was one of a kind. Peter wasn't about to let that go.
"Exactly," he said, tugging Loki back to him.
Loki's gaze was shy but also the tiniest bit hopeful as he leaned forward to reconnect their lips.
"Also," Peter murmured against them. "You make a cute cat."

@megidolan I love this fanart so much. I saw it in google images once and ended up writing a fic for it and I'm so glad I found the person who originally made the fanart. And, hsjshsj, someone else wrote a fic that inspired this fanart?? Where is that?? I want to read it, please 😭
(I realized I wrote this with Stony instead of Ironstrange because that's what I typically do for Peter if his parents are heroes but I hope you like it anyway 😅)
