Iâm that diagnosing things like autism isnât really a thing in the main AU but letâs say hypothetically how would Vyrm feel about finally getting diagnosed with autism after so many years? Would he feel some sort of closure that itâs something out of his control or would it just make him even sadder thinking that he wasnât ânormalâ ever since birth?
I think for the most part, he'd feel relieved. He always felt like something was wrong with him, and that it was entirely his fault but he couldn't tell what it was. Was he just weak? Too emotional? Too incompetent and slow? What was he doing wrong, what could he do differently? How would he do it? So many questions he asked himself throughout his life, and in all of it, he felt alone. But if he was diagnosed, and he realized that there are others like him, I think he would feel a little better. Like you said, it is something outside of his control, so while he made mistakes throughout his life, it wasn't all his fault. What would help is that he'd finally know what the deal is, and maybe now he could deal with it properly, or at least handle it better.
But it would also make him extremely sad that he had to live for so long without knowing. That his whole life he was made out to be the weird one, without even an ounce of sympathy. Over time, it made him believe that he was doing something wrong and thus didn't deserve that kindness. But perhaps if someone was there to tell him that there is nothing wrong with him and his brain just works differently, his life could've gone better.
I think it would be interesting if Grimm started looking into this in his free time. Most likely during his travels, since if there is anyone studying bug behavior like this to reach their own interpretation of what we call autism, they would most likely live somewhere else. I think Vyrm would vent to him about his struggles and how he often wonders what's wrong with him, since it feels like some things just never turn out right whenever he attempts them. And Grimm would want to help him in any way he can. He for sure has some contacts here and there, so who knows, maybe eventually he would find someone who wrote about something that could match Vyrm's experience. Perhaps he'd even find out that he might be similar to his husband in more ways, since I do also imagine him as autistic, just better at masking it.
