I had a wonderful time painting at lifedrawing last night! This is a two hour costumed pose, painted in gouache, 12 x 16". Thank goodness for 2" wide flat brushes, they really do make the block-in go fast!
I painted this with these student-grade gouache paints, which I purchased to teach my nephews about gouache with! I was really impressed, though I did end up pulling in my winsor & newton titanium white tube to get the best highlights; it's more viscous and slightly more opaque than meeden's.
Also, for student grade paints, this set uses a good array of legit lightfast pigments, and while there's a bunch of convenience colours, they are built from a small palette of pigments and feel decently complimentary to one another. These swatches show opacity accurately, too! Definitely recommend.
My main complaint is that they took longer than I'd like to rehydrate from dry, but frankly so do at least half of my professional grade gouche. Otherwise the main differences are just opacity and saturation, as you would expect, and overall less fancy pigments.
Also colour names get weird, like, what is that cobalt. That's a periwinkel blue there, make no mistake! It has nothing to do with real cobalts! But also I don't want to give my nephews paint full of cobalt right now so, y'know, fair enough.
