Medical School Interviews
Here's some advice for interviews straight from the mouth of the dean of a medical school admission committee so pay attention.
-Know why you want to attend that school. Is it the curriculum? Is it the extracurricular activities? Is it because they are very invested in community service?
-Know or review your applications (Primary and Secondary), anything is up for grabs! That research project you did last year or two years ago, yes you still need to know about that.
-Prepare at least 2 questions, show that you are interested in the school as much as they are interested in you. They did invite you after all, it means that you've got the grades, the shadowing, the research, the volunteering. Now they want to see you as a person, will you fit in to their school?
-Research what kind of interview you will have, is it a group meeting? Will it be multiple mini interviews?
During/ For the interview...
-Bring up any updates that you have.
-Remember those questions, well ask them! Be interactive with your interviewer if you can and ask them about themselves.
-Dress business but comfortable, especially the ladies (heels anyone?). You might have to walk around all day so you don't want to be hot, cold or have blistered feet by the end of the day.
-If you feel necessary or comfortable with it, send thank you letters.
-Do not, do not , do not go in cocky. I know some students who are very adamant about their academics and activities and they can come off as cocky. Let me tell you regardless of their near 4.0 G.P.A and their 39 MCAT after the interview they did not get fully accepted, they were wait-listed aka put in purgatory. You don't want this. You would want to have a good doctor with a good personality too! Have your friends interview you and ask them if you come off like this try to change it before the interview.
