I’m not sure why I suddenly stopped using this account, but here I am again. Life has definitely changed since I last posted back in 2020.

Five years later, I find myself a college student once again after a long break. I spent several years focusing on work, but now I’m back at it full-time, pursuing a degree in Psychology. While finishing my degree, I’ll also be completing the prerequisites for medical school — a dream I’ve held onto for over a decade.

When I re-enrolled, I already had nearly 80 credit hours under my belt, so I’m getting closer to the finish line. Along the way, some of my other dreams, like motherhood, have come and gone. Much of the time I was away from school was devoted to trying to start a family, including years of IVF treatments due to Endometriosis. About a year ago, I made the difficult but ultimately life-changing decision to have a total hysterectomy. It wasn’t easy, but it turned out to be the best decision for my health and well-being.

Now, with the ability to shift my focus away from health struggles, I can give school the time and energy it truly requires. I’m definitely not a traditional student, but I’ve come to appreciate how much more common that path is these days.

hi Esther, sorry, but there's no botany or zoology in my degree, when they said life sciences, they more so meant "human" life 😅 but in terms of studying, i personally find it's often more helpful to understand the concepts and why the jargon is what it is and then just brain dump it onto a scrap piece of paper to study. look for patterns and things that break the patterns and why. and how does this line up with what you already know? i also know many swear by flashcards as a way to actively recall key terms.

learning:

Idk how I'm gonna do this and do it well but i kind of have to:

finish reading all the sections of mol bio i need for the assignment (17 slides) ✅ (originally, the plan was to take notes on them all but that would take too long and anyway, the assignment doesn't need me to recall so much as apply...)

watch psyc and mol bio module review ✅

finish + send the assignment cuz it's due today ✅

review psyc wk 3-4 notes ✅ (i have ~half of wk 4 left...)

do psyc quiz (if not, i have to do it tmr morning, which...wouldn't be so bad if i didn't have many other things catch up on! i hope i can do it 😤💪)

Let me start out by saying I go to what I think is a halfway decent, pretty non-malignant medical school but...It just kind of baffles my mind how my school is sending us all this information about how we will be able to work with COVID patients when we go back in the spring and how we can volunteer to administer vaccines without giving any indication as to whether or not we’re in the vaccination line at all.

So you want me to risk my own health administering vaccines to other people for no pay and no school credit? Alongside other health care professionals who are all vaccinated? One of my classmates had to be hospitalized in the first wave because of catching COVID from a patient. Why is it still ok to absolutely crap all over medical students?
