Back to basics. (Yes, I write on books and I also doodle on their pages.)
āWhen asked: āWhy are you so fascinated by history?ā, a lot of people will say itās because we can learn something from it. As if, by collecting as much knowledge as you can in a lifetime, you will use it to create something new, something better. I donāt think this is entirely true, for several reasons. The first one being the famous āEverythingās been done beforeā, which is, conditionally speaking, true. The second reason is that it actually gives us comfort.Ā The cave paintings, the pyramids, abbey ruins, medieval ivory combs in museums⦠All of this is a testament that not everything is in vain. That our own death is not the end of things. Whatever we do, say, make - create in any way, might outlive us. That is why we give our best to preserve what little things from our forefathers we have left. One more reason is that it fascinates us. We can look at a face of a man who lived thousands of years ago. We can touch his sword, or read his words as if he was still here. There is comfort in that, as well. And the point is, I donāt think itās our weakness. We, the people of last several centuries, are the only ones to ever exist that actually have this benefit. The combined power of knowledge, science, time⦠And we should use it. Success of all those who were before us shouldnāt be intimidating. We can still make something for those who are coming. The saddest thing is that weāre very lost, and in trying to find ourselves, we make things even worse. And thatās where history steps in, again. We should look back to remind ourselves how not to waste our lives.Ā Try to see the bigger picture. Look through the eyes of history. Or maybe Iām totally off the point. It is 4 a.m. where I am, after all.ā āHex (mediumaevum)

AAAAAAAAH *jealouses* (also you probably missed it because no-one has any interest in Winterās Tale *sigh*)
*jealouses along with you for a moment vis-Ć -vis future me*
Yeah to be fair Winterās Tale is one of those plays I havenāt actually read yet either. Not for lack of interest though, itās been on my to read list forever and Iām always kinda low-key embarrassed by not having read all of them, but part of me really likes that there are still some out there for me to discover bit by bit so I end up not putting too much effort into changing that. (Thatās how I rationalise it, anyway. In practice I donāt have the bloody time to read anything non-PhD related right now anyway. Ugh.)

Genius! :D
... well, considering that mostly, this is due to over a decade's worth of refusal to wear proper winter clothes, I'm not too sure about that :)

Well, you could wibble. And/or get distracted by Kit and Will,
Not an option, sadly enough, since I will need dad's permission for at least parts of this. It went well, though.

Stay warm and comfy out there. Proper boots are the best things ever, and gloves are my own Most Important for Cold things (but I have a weird pinky joint that loudly complains about the cold) all those layers and you should be fine, though.
Proper boots are a blessing and proof of benevolence somewhere in the universe. Gloves, eh. I'm the sort of person capable of having clod hands when it's 30 degrees out. And there is no amount of gloves that would keep my hands warm.

:( Pajama pants under jeans?
I did consider that, but my jeans are too tight-fitting for that to work...

Wrap legs in scarves. Neck in scarf. Scarfgloves. Head in scarf. Take everything off and reclothe in scarves.
I ... don't think I have quite enough scarves to manage that. I mean, I still have two more scarves at my dad's, so I could pick those up tomorrow, and then when I get home, I could try that.
