Red, White, and Royal Blue: A Review
By: Casey McQuiston
Disclaimer: Not my photo.
This was one of those books that I just happened upon because it was everywhere and just about everyone was reading it. To be honest, based on the summary of it I wasn't really understanding the hype but I figured that I would give it a try. To say that I am glad I gave it a chance would be a huge understatement. From the moment I started reading this book it was all I could think about. I'd sneak reading a page in the two minutes before I had to walk into work, I'd stay up way later than I should have, etc. This book was all I thought about when I wasn't reading it.
I don't want to ruin anything for anyone, so maybe don't read much further if it's one on your list, but the relationship between Alex and Henry was way better and so much more complex than I was anticipating. I unfortunately judged this book by its cover and thought it was going to be a cutsey LGBT+ book about two political figures and that would be about it with maybe a scandal involved here and there. I'm so glad that I can say that I was totally wrong and this book was so much more. The secrecy of their relationship was probably what got me hooked on this book in the first place but reading the character development of both Alex and Henry, reading them both having to come out to their families in a very public manner, just all of it was so well written. I'm not going to say much more as I don't want to spoil anything else.
I seriously loved every second of reading this book and wish this was one of those books I could forget just so I could read it again. I honestly could not get this book out of my head when I was not reading it and so highly recommend this book. With that being said, this book gets a 5/5 for being so amazingly cute and well written.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is extremely slow not because of some narration technique but simply because it is. Read our take of the book at
