Week 6 - Speaks to Me - Google’s Parisian Love (2012)

I love Googles creativity in all of their advertisements. They are so easy to relate to. A person young as 10 to an older internet user as old as 70 can navigate the simplicity that is the Google search bar. This particular ad is simple yet executed so perfectly. This ad calls out to me because “searches” used in the search bar. This entire advertisement tells a story with only Google searches. Which is such a unique approach but powerful. It shows just how powerful and how much a person can rely on a website and how much it can effect the day to day lives of all of us. Of course this tells a cute romantic story but through a Google Search, showing the websites influence and notability.

Week 3 - Part III

Skittles and Snickers are two different candy types (similar brands, marketing candy).

Skittles approach focuses on older children, teens and young adults. There is an element of ridiculousness to the advertisement, which Snickers share but this approach is going for odd and over the top. Weird scenarios, most younger featured actors and just general sense of silliness that appeals to those in a younger age bracket.

Snickers, (Betty White) commercial featured for this week comparison aims to older audiences. Those familiar with Betty White, both men and women whom felt the pain of workout and play and being hungry. Older audiences can laugh at the simple humor, identify the notable actor in a weird situation and relate to the “hunger” pains.

These two advertisements although marketing similar products are aiming at different target audiences but still aim to hit that audience. I will not argue any one of any age could laugh at either but the Snickers is “smarter” ad whereas the Skittles adverts seem comedic and peculiar appealing to those younger or those with more creative minds.

Week 2 - Idea File - Favorite Brand.

Let me begin by saying, I am no fan of any particular brands particularly at least when it comes to the fashion industry (shoes, clothing, cosmetics). Making me a nightmare for a marketing team if they had go based on myself for an entire audience. I’m in my late twenties so I feel most fashion adverts are rarely captivating to me. As I chose comfort over style and so on.

This particular ad stands out to me from the luxurious designer brand, Chanel. It features French model and actor, Gaspard Ulliel. Now as someone of a fan of Gaspard. I did find myself in Macy’s taking whiff of ‘Chanel Blue’ just because Gaspard Ulliel was a handsome high profile name featured.

This advertisement works for its target audience younger men (20-30) Perhaps women as well (hoping their significant other may be more like the male beauty Gaspard if wearing Blue) but this is aimed at wealthier audiences. The is apparent as shoes demonstrates a high fashion, features a handsome celebrity interview and a catchy rift. An overall excellent ad, that I’m sure appealed to its target audience which I believe it what makes it work.

Ikea’s ‘My Son’ ad was part of a larger Marketing Campaign called, “Where Life Happens” featuring relatable and emotionally provoking using IKEA the brand itself to link them together.

Bad advertisement!

Lacks empathy of depression (the target audience), does not highlight the causes, effects of depression and how the Cymbalta will aid in helping them, it chose a rather unconventional route by an entire one-minute tangent of side effects of using this drug. A poor advertising move.

This ad is effective as creates a connection to the viewer while evoking a strong emotions to the years events. This advertisement reminds us we are all connected, we all SEARCH and we are all apart of the same world. The combination of powerful videos, empowering quotes and soft music help bring out the empathetic emotions.
