Rewatching the initial few scenes of Matty’s introduction on the show has really made me appreciate how far his relationship with Moira has come. Neither of them has been perfect — and she’s definitely made more than a few mistakes as she’s gotten to know him again — but they’re both really trying and that’s what matters. One of my favourite scenes since was when she asked Matty to go help Cain help Debbie move in with them. The joy on Matty’s face was radiant because it was one of the first times you could tell that she really did view him as one of her sons now (and more than capable of manual labour like that).

“Don’t worry, they won’t be able to dig up anything about my past. I didn’t get into any trouble under mother’s watchful eye.”
