@nabewata:
The tension coming from Mari could be cut with a knife, which made the smaller woman feel uneasy and nervous. Shudders ran all over Mayuās spine, and not even the steamy coffee in front of her could calm her down. But she had the whole right to be mad at her, after all it was cruel to disappear just like that. The life of an idol was busy, it sure was, but she had plenty of chances to at least send a text message, but she didnāt want to seem too clingy.
Butā¦No, there were no ābutsā, especially when the other woman had been very sweet with her, maybe that was what made her nervous to text back? She bit her lower lip when Mari finally spoke to her, flinching on her seat as she drank a sip of latte. āEhhā¦ā Then paused, still managing to hold her gaze up to look at her, furrowing her brows as she struggled to say something that didnāt sound like a poor excuse.
Truth was that besides drowning herself in work, her mood was beyond down forā¦different reasons. She didnāt felt like venting up her frustrations and ruin things upā¦āSo you no longer want to see me?ā She inquired, unable to hide how embarrassed and hurt she was, licking her lips in anxiety. āIām very sorry, Marichan. But I donāt like to face others at my worst.ā
Mariās jaw clenched, and she felt a pang of guilt hit her at the otherās last words. I donāt like to face others at my worst. She could understand what that was like. Perhaps she was being too harsh with Mayu. There was something the other was going through after all. But the sting was still there. She left without a word, and left Mari feeling small. Unimportant. Meaningless. Like everything theyād said and done amounted to nothing. It sucked. And Mari couldnāt help but blame herself, like she always did. The very thought saddened her, but she maintained her composure, refusing to show weakness.
Maybe all of this was enough to never want to see Mayu again. But a part of her knew sheād regret it. She still liked Mayu. A lot. Sheād miss her. And wouldnāt her being here now be enough?
Mari didnāt know the answer to that. But she made her decision.
The pregnant silence between them was filled with the sound of Mariās deep sigh leaving through her nose, her shoulders falling as the tension left her body, though her jaw still remained set and her gaze still intense. āI⦠I donāt want to stop seeing you. Just⦠maybe donāt disappear againā¦?ā she said finally, her tightened jaw more relaxed now. Her unsettling gaze softened as well, with her now glassy eyes watching the other with more sincerity. āAre you okay?ā she asked, this time with genuine concern, the warmth that was usually there creeping back into her voice.

Send š¢ for my muse to get mad at yours for something they did.
Mariās anger was a silent one. One made of cold stares and a voice devoid of its usual sweetness and sincerity (In a way, it reminded her of her father, though sheād never admit it). Granted, Mari had very little reason to be mad with Mayu. They werenāt together. Mayu didnāt owe her anything. And her life certainly was far busier than Mariās ever was. Ā But time went by without a single call or text or mention of her whereabouts, and she couldnāt help but feel a little hurt. It left her thinking maybe sheād done something wrong. Said the wrong thing? Said too much? Too little? Had she been too boring? That was probably it. Usually was, at least she thought.Ā
Theyād been sitting in silence for some time, with Mari thinking of something to say. She didnāt want Mayu to know how upset she was, but she couldnāt let the stillness between them continue. āI hope youāve been well,ā she managed. She tried to hide her feelings, but was failing. The dryness in her voice was too easily noticed, and her blank expression remained unchanged.
@notwintails:
A puzzled look on her eyes, which kept looking at Mariās smiling face. She wondered in silence what kind of person was her type while scratching the back of her head, but before asking aloud, the older one got interrupted by a playful response instead that was kind of unexpected, given how shy the other woman was.
āIād say you are a catch! Iāve never dated before. And I donāt think Iām sweet. More like an āodd oneā! Absolutely not dating material!ā She concluded, giving her a reassuring look. She had been involved with few people, but given the nature of those relationshipsā¦perhaps ādatingā wasnāt the right term to describe them.
Apparently, Mari didnāt seemed to be bothered by her closeness at all. Was she actually poking fun of her? Things werenāt supposed to be like that, she thought. "Does that mean you donāt mind me here?ā That answer intrigued her much more, and was unable to hold back her laughter again, half in amusement and half in relief that she was playing along with her silly self. Her head leaned on Mariās shoulder as the laughter decreased and only kept a smile on her face.
She did not paid attention to the waiter bringing their drinks, her eyes drifting instead on how carefully the woman next to her took the can to take a sip the drink. Every single part of Mariās face was visually appealing. She always liked to look and spoil cute, younger girls in a sisterly way. But the way she was feeling at the moment was different and made her wonder many things while looking at the other one. Like if her cheeks were as soft as they looked, or how cute were her beauty marks. She was getting too comfortable, and the closeness was pleasantly warm, but the trance was suddenly broken by another question, making her straight up on her spot.
"Karaoke?ā She repeated, clearing her throat and finally moving inches away when realizing how overly comfortable she was acting. The bitter taste of tea in her throat only made her long again for something fresher and sweeter. Another chuuhai, perhaps? Mariās lips still looked wet after her last sip⦠āDo you want to go now? Or next time?ā She inquired, noticing that she was acting shy again, and even her voice sounded lower. āWe should order the bill then.ā
āāNot dating materialā isnāt something I would use to describe you, Mayusan.ā Mari gave her soft smile, a look of sincerity in her eyes. āYouāre certainly a ācatchā yourself. And as for āodd oneā⦠I guess thatās what makes people special, right? Unique. Thatās not so bad, mm?ā Her gaze shifted to her lap, though the smile never left. Her hand combed her hair away from her face, a shy habit of hers. Perhaps a more sober Mari would be less inclined to say such things. Sheād be more reserved, less likely to enjoy the closeness they shared. But it was easier to get lost in the euphonious laughter and the feeling of warmth she felt in her chest when Mayu rested her head on her shoulder. Mari quite liked how comfortable they were, and she responded to the motion with a tilt of her own head, resting it atop Mayuās.
Mari took steady sips from her can of chuuhai before Mayu replied. Her response thrilled her, and the excitement could easily be read on Mariās face. She wants to go! Her mind buzzed, a jubilant feeling overcoming her. āAh! We can go now, sure! No problem. Itās not too far from here, actually. We can walk there if thatās okay?ā Was she a bit too exuberant? Probably. She dialed back some. Her relaxed nature returned, though the excitement didnāt fade.
The waiter eventually came, and Mari requested the bill. She finished her can of chuuhai in the time they waited, thinking of what to say. The silence was less deafening now, no discomfort between them considering how friendly they were being. And at times, Mari found herself staring. Not in an awkward way, at least she hoped. But she couldnāt help but admire her features. She could stare for hours and never find a flawā¦
She looked away before Mayu could notice, and by then the waiter had returned with the bill. āAhh⦠I can take the bill. My treat! If thatās okayā¦ā
@notwintails
Mariās face after being asked that question was not surprising, and she wasnāt disappointed that she looked rather thoughtful before responding. So Mayu waited for an answer, her chin resting on top of the palm of her right hand, hoping it wasnāt too obnoxious nor thoughtless.Ā
āSoā¦do you have crushes right now? I already forgot how does they feel!ā The second sentence came out without thinking, and couldnāt hold it back, with her cheeks turning reddish in embarrassment. She was in process of moving on from something that was doomed to fail from the beginning. Secrets. Lies. Let downs. And zero attention, unless the other person felt like calling (which was very rare). It was kind of odd that someone she barely knew was way warmer and attentive than he ever was for the last months. āWhoever you are having a crush right now, is very lucky!ā She said sincerely, with the slightly wider smile being result of the cans she had drank prior Mari arrived.
She so was pretty. And natural - the kind of attractive that barely needed something to stand out from the crowd, even if the taller one seemed like the type who liked to be incognito due of her shyness. Mayu kept her hand next to her head, brushing more the long black locks of her hair, fingertips barely caressing her head. An affectionate gesture she usually reserved for people closest to her. She didnāt felt like breaking the closeness, and her companion didnāt seem to mind much, and her positive answer regarding the length of her hair made Mayu smile more, paying more attention to her features and only moved away when she made the gesture of lean down to her plate. She was no longer hungry, but followed by taking a few more bites from her meal.Ā
They remained silent for a couple minutes, but it was no longer awkward. It was rather relaxing, Mayu was considering to order hot tea to āwake upā. Alcohol was taking its toll and she began to feel a little dizzy, yet pleased. āDoesnāt freak you out to have lunch with a strange, Mari?ā The honorific gone, Mayu tried to make her voice a bit deeper to make the question. She was being playful, even standing out from her place to kneel behind the taller female, with her lips close to whisper. āWhat if I bother you to the point youāll run off?ā The whole acting fell out when she bursted out laughing again. āAhh, Iām sorry! Did I creep you out?ā
She nodded in response to the question of her crushes. āMhm, I do.ā She smiled, coupled with another nervous chuckle, āIām unsure if they know it though.ā Granted, of course, her biggest crush sat right in front of her. She liked Mayu. She would see her in the library often, always found her pretty. But it was always the same question that made it difficult for Mari to gather enough courage and approach her. Does she like girls? But now here they were, and Mari found herself drawn to her even more. It helped that Mayu was quite easy to warm up to, and affectionate too, judging from the way she gently combed through Mariās long hair. An intimate gesture, one Mari seemed to enjoy.
āāLuckyā, hmm? Are you saying Iām a catch, Mayusan?ā Her tone was more playful now. Her lips spread into a wide smile that matched Mayuās, followed closely by a low laugh. āYouāre too sweet.ā She finished the last of the champuru on her plate and took the chance to order another chuuhai after Mayu ordered her tea.Ā
The momentary silence didnāt bother Mari all too much. Usually she would feel herself growing anxious as the silence continued, but being in Mayuās company seemed to put her at ease. Nights like this were nice. Knowing someone like Mayu was nice. But it was so rare. How many people in Mariās life were so⦠kind? And exuded this brightness that outshines anyone next to them. Perhaps she was exaggerating. It had only been one night after all. And still there was the desire to learn more, to be closer. She wanted to see her again. I should ask, she thought. But how? And when? Did Mayu even want to see her again? Maybe notā¦
Her contemplation was interrupted by Mayuās question, one that had Mariās brow raised. Her face showed more surprise as Mayu knelt next to her, her face close as she whispered. Mari swallowed, slight heat rushing to her cheeks. And she couldnāt help but grin. Mayu was being awfully silly, and when she broke into a fit of laughter, Mari laughed too. It wasnāt the soft chuckles or pigeon laughter sheād made throughout the night. It was resonant, contagious laughter. A kind of laugh that rarely escaped her. āItāll take more than that to creep me out, Mayusan,ā she giggled once more, and offered the other a warm smile.
She relaxed and collected herself, though the smile didnāt leave her face. Once they were served their drinks, Mari immediately took a sip of her chuuhai. Nowās your chance! Her thoughts raced. āMayusan⦠can I ask you something?ā the nervousness of earlier returned. āDo you, um⦠like karaoke? I mean, we could go together. If you want to, that is. You can watch me embarrass myself with my bad singing.ā She laughed nervously and fidgeted in her seat. Mari was prepared to be shot down.
