Is it possible if you can draw chat noir as salt bae and instead of salt it’s lady bug
this broke me
a look
Can I just say thank you so much for what you said on the voltron canon/canon post? Like... I’ve almost never seen a Latinx character in a cartoon besides fucking DORA. So it bothers me when people change lances skin tone to change his representation orientation. Or change any skin tone for that matter to change their representation orientation. (Let it be light to dark or dark to darker) its weird feeling like to be part of MY culture I need to be darker to fit the image. (1/2)
I’m fair skinned, I’m mistaken for being white and I can’t speak a whole lot of Spanish cuz, California. But that doesn’t make me any less Latina. Anyways I sort of went off on a tangent but I’m meaning to say thank you for saying what you said. Like.. you understand and it’s feels good to know you understand. Yknow? Have a nnnnice day :^p
it hit me the other day that really the only cartoons i actively watch with latino main characters in them are voltron and star vs the forces of evil. that’s why voltron was so exciting for me i was so hyped up when i found out about lance, i’m so happy he exists and that he has a character design i can look at and think “shit, that boy looks like me, oh my god.”Â
so yeah i’m so with you, it bothers me too when people change his skin tone. and the biggest argument i’m seeing in support of it is “just let people do what they want” without understanding the hypocrisy of starting lynch mobs for whitewashing but calling darkwashing a-ok. skin color is a really nuanced topic. black, latino, east asian, and southeast asian people are all indoctrinated with this idea that lighter is better. i get that. but at the same time people with olive/caramel skin tones are always made to feel like they’re not dark enough to talk about their oppression or their experiences. or that they don’t look enough like a person of color because they’re mixed race. like it’s just so problematic to go around talking about how “we need to make these characters look more like people of color” when these characters are people of color to begin with. so there’s nothing to change. they don’t need to look more like what they already are.Â
like you said, you can be fair skinned and not speak much spanish and still be latina. you exist, you are a person, your representation is just as valid, but people would rather dictate to others what they feel is proper representation instead of letting people speak for themselves. this stuff’s super complicated so to talk about it in black-and-white terms just does all of us a disservice.Â
anyway, now i’m rambling. thanks for the message, it’s nice to have other people here who get this stuff and are willing to talk about it. i appreciate you very much!!Â
