THE REAL STORY NOW

Calla and Belle stared at Fitz disbelievingly. “What makes you think that?”

“Well, Sophie and I like eachother? We’re cognates?”

“That doesn’t mean you’re our father. You could be dead in the future, for all you know.”

“Am I dead?”

“No.”

“Well, then, what’s stopping me from being your dad?”

“For the last time, we can’t tell you. Anyways, we have to wait until everyone else gets here. And then we will explain what happens,” Calla informed them.

“What, so you’re going to give us a play by play of the next few years of our life?”

“Essentially, yes. But only so you can trust us. And then we’re going to wipe your memories, as soon as we figure out how to get back home. We’ve never gone this far back before.”

“Oh. Well, it looks like Lihn and Keefe are here now,” Biana pointed out, walking over to them. 

“Aunt Lihn!” Belle exclaimed, racing over to give her Aunt a hug. Lihn’s face morphed from it’s usual kind, sweet one to a face of confusion.

“Sophie? Who is this?” 

“This is Calla,” She told her. “And that’s Belle. My daughters.”

“Sorry, what?” Keefe asked. “Care to explain, Foster?”

“When Dex gets here.”

“Did I hear my name?” Dex exclaimed, running over to Sophie. Calla gave him a hug. 

“Yeah. Now we can finally get started!” Calla motioned for them all to sit down on the couch. “So first off, I’m Calla. This is my sister Belle.”

“Hi,” Belle said.

“We’re Sophie- and one of your daughters.” 

Keefe raised an eyebrow. Something you and the Fitzter need to explain, Foster?”

“We’re from the future.”

“Woah.”

“Will you please stop interupting me?” Calla yelled. “Anyways, I’m going to tell you about the future. First off, the Black Swan: they’re in control of the elves, along with the council. It’s a pretty sweet deal. Livvy and Elwin are actually dating- the whole matchmakers thing isn’t as much of a big deal.

“Yeah- you just have to apply to get married. Mom- Sophie- says it reminds her of the way humans do things. She had a lot to do with that. Anyways, the Neverseen have a few members still alive, but they’ve had their memories completely wiped and they’re in Exile. So we’re sure they’re pretty safe. Besides that, the Neverseen are gone.”

“Alvar?” 

“He- died.”

Fitz cursed under his breath. 

“Yeah. It was kind of a nasty death, from the memories I’ve seen, but all the same, the Vackers were really happy.”

“Huh,” Biana mumbled. 

“What about my family?” Dex asked. “Are they all okay?”

“Mostly. They’re all still alive. Your mom got hurt pretty bad at the battle of Foxfire. But she’s okay now, just a big scar down the middle of her face.”

“Oh.”

“What’s the Battle of Foxfire?” Sophie asked. If Foxfire was going to be attacked, then they needed to get more gaurds and goblins there, as fast as possible.

“After the Neverseen pretty much took over everything, Foxfire was a huge mess. They still had school, but you had to prove you were loyal to the Neverseen in some way. So one day the Black Swan and Council invaded it- that was after they had started working together- and that was it, the final battle. They couldn’t summon any Ogres, but the Black Swan and Council had all the warriors from the other intelligent species. Not to mention they didn’t kill a lot of them, just wiped their memories completely blank, and locked them into Oblivymere and Exile and a million other top security prisons. 

“Sounds dramatic,” Keefe said. “But should we tell Mr. Forkle to get more security around Foxfire?”

“That might raise susupicions with the Neverseen,” Dex pointed out. “But I might be able to make some hidden or invisivble weapons to hide around the campus.”

“That would be a really good idea,” Biana agreed. “But I have one question to ask before we move one to something else: Who dies?”
