Make your trip to Africa memorable
Are you planning to visit Africa for your next trip? Having Uganda as your gateway to the continent would be the best choice you could ever make to have your trip memorable. As my final project, here are some of the answers to questions relating to your trip to Uganda, also known as the Pearl of Africa. - Johnson Mayamba
We are made by history
It takes an endless amount of history to make even a little tradition. Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. As such, my timeline story is about the history of my country since independence. This is what has shaped most of my work as a journalist. Enjoy reading it.
Malewa: The traditional soup from Uganda
My favorite soup is made from a mixture of smoked and dried bamboo shoots and dry pounded groundnuts. It is also a delicacy in my home country, especially with my tribe of Bagisu. I consider it my favorite because I was introduced to it by my grandmother who always gave herself time to make the best of it. My mother was able to learn how to make it too. So far, I find no one else who can cook it better than those two. Over time, I have trained myself in preparing it but I still cannot make it to the standard of my mother and grandmother. Unfortunately, they both passed on. So whenever I want to feel close to them, I either prepare it or go to someone who knows how to prepare it close enough to what I was used to. It is very delicious and nutritious too. When I was coming to the US, my maternal aunt packed some for me. I tried to make myself the soup in my residence at Fusion.
Man in the mirror
These pictures were taken during the Welcome Reception for the Humphrey Fellows in the First Amendment Forum of Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University. The first picture was taken at a wide angle while the second one was zoomed in to get a close-up shot. I blended both pictures at opacity of 40% to mirror the close-up shot. I avoided the filters to maintain the mirrored photo. - Johnson Mayamba

Are we getting back to normal?
Unlike in the past many months where most places on campus were isolated due to COVID-19, that seems to be changing. I choose to take this picture from an aerial view to show that despite being in the pandemic, life seems to be getting back to normal. Here, students are seen lining up to register for different services offered by the university while others wait in the lobby. There are social activities happening in person on campus (of course with social distancing) and students are always seem ready to attend classes in person too. Isn’t it safe to say life is getting back to normal? -Johnson Mayamba

Future fading faces
Originally, this is a photo of me in my traditional wear while holding my country flag. As the photo went through different sequences, I realise my face fading into a scary animation. What would happen if I went deeper? - Johnson Mayamba
