He prefers a slow-and-steady-wins-the-race approach. He likes to hit hard and to deal damage steadily. This is a strategy so he can observe and bide his time and watch for an opportunity to land an incapacitating move. He takes calculated risks as he sees and assesses them, but he’s not good at improvising on the spot. It takes him time to think of a different strategy.
If he isn’t having much of an effect, he tends to keep repeating the ineffective move, all the while he’s desperately watching closely trying to figure out what is going wrong. It takes him a while to process things. He has a lot of (grim) determination, though (the Capricorn moon) and he will grit his teeth and endure till he’s knocked out, like Lops.

She’s a haphazard fighter and she doesn’t have a strategy. She has one or two moves that generally deals decent damage to any type, and this is what she relies on. She isn’t someone who can think of strategies, but she’s able to see opportunities that arise and seize them -- e.g. she suddenly notices that there’s an opening and she darts in and takes it.
Max relies on good defense so he can take hits while he figures things out, but Fiona relies more on speed and decent attacking power. Her defense is weak; she feels every hard hit. She tends to take risks, and even occasionally takes reckless risks. That’s because in the heat of things, she sometimes forgets to watch her health or forgets to calculate how much damage she might take. She is highly motivated to win if you threaten someone she loves. Then, all her focus is engaged and the pressure actually works to her advantage, because she starts to think and notice.
