Is there a difference in the receiver used in the G98 and K98k?
The K98k (Karabiner Modell 1898 Kurz) was simply a derivative of the Mauser Infanteriegewehr Modell 1898 (Gew.98), it evolved through the Karabiner Modell 1898a (K98a) which was the name given to all K98 carbines made since 1904, it had a small ring receiver and is identifiable by the stacking hook beneath the barrel. The K98k designation was used when rifle production began again in 1935 with the same basic design of the K98a but without the small ring reciever. The K98k uses the same receiver and three locking lug bolt as that found in the Gew 98 except that it has a turned bolt handle making the bolt easier to action.
