i've always had ADHD, had terrible grades, was awful in high school, dropped out of college and i still managed to get a full time job and be self sufficient. basically im a complete fuck up but im making it. im calling this a positive thing because fuck all'a ya'll thats a big deal to me
if i want something, i'll find a way to get it. job, apartment, car, PS3, doesn't matter. once ive set my mind to obtaining something, i have it within six months.

That's unlikely. I'm excited to see what sort of new town projects will pop up as time goes on, and I have more than a few furniture sets that I want to fully collect. I also want to see most of the new villagers in this game, so that'll be another reason to stick with it. I have a lot of reasons to continue playing after I get mainstreet completed!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you start writing GRG? Was it just a.... let's go, let's do this, moment? How did you decide how you would script it? I feel like I'm placing roadblocks on the way to getting something done because there's so many unknowns.
Initially, yeah. You need to declare that moment to get the ball rolling.
Once I declared “Okay, I and whoever else are doing this”, it took about a year’s worth of pre-production between that decision and posting the first page. Research, brainstorming, artist recruitment, etc. Would’ve taken less time if Life didn’t get in the way, but either way the pre-production stage will and does take time.
It’s best to have a (loose) launch date in mind. I knew I wanted 2012 to be the Year of the Gorilla, so I made sure the site was launched before January 1. Sarah and I barely made the deadline, getting things done right in the middle of Christmas vacation, but dammit we did it.
I admit to playing GRG very fast and loose. (Art imitates Life.) I normally prefer having things as pre-planned as possible, but between working with others and Life you can only do so much. If you’re setting yourself for a weekly update, all you can do is make sure it gets out on that day. (And if it doesn’t, well, take a salt tablet and get it out when you can. The only people who will complain are those who you’d rather not please anyway.)
Furthermore, I admit that my writing productivity is incredibly erratic. Sometimes I write half an issue out in one wondrous burst, other times (like with this upcoming page), I cobble something together just before Kelsey’s On Time deadline. I won’t defend it, and I certainly don’t endorse it. Brian Michael Bendis champions the idea of writing something every day, but I don’t have the capacity to do that. Not yet, at least.
There will always be roadblocks, no matter how fortified you think your ride is. Push through them, pay no mind to the dents and scratches, and take care of the flat tires when they happen.
mattjustmatt answered: I’d go with installing something like Vanilla onto your hosting, and then either buying a domain for it or using an extension of one you own.
This sounds like it could potentially be great, but definitely time-consuming as far as having to get all the coding in order. I am not sure how long everyone is willing to wait for me to figure out a brand new program, but it's a possibility!

I am currently using IF for another forum, and find it to be pretty satisfactory, but, you know, that's me (or us, I suppose!). I'm not sure if having it be hosted on a free forum like that would put off other people who are wanting something a little more "official", I guess, BUT! I'm not getting any feedback saying "NO BOOOO FREE FORUM" so maybe it's not a deal. I mean, hopefully no one is expecting this to be hyper professional, haha, because it most certainly will not be.

A noble task, but not one that I'd have the free time to do on top of this forum and my other hairbrained schemes, haha.
Thank you all for your thoughts on this, it helps me quite a bit, even as just options to chew over and research. Building stuff by yourself for a pre-organized group is intimidating!
