MUSIC FOR MELTING SNOWÂ
Gallagher Girls Ship Week Matt/Rachel
Gallagher Girls Ship Week
Prompt: Rachel/Matt
Words: 966
Rachel Cameron didnât really understand why Matthew Morgan, her (pretty damn hot) co-worker, whom she had just recently finished a mission with, was standing in front of her door, a bouquet of daisies in his hand.
Instead of asking why the hell he was at her door, Rachel asked, âHow did you know my favorite flowers were daisies?â
Matt grinned at her, his dirty blonde curls sweeping to the side of his face in the blowing wind, âI might have had some help from Abby.â
âThat devil,â said Rachel, shaking her head, but she opened the door wider, gesturing for Matt to come in.
âSo,â said Matt, taking a seat on her couch, âIâm here to ask if the lovely Miss Cameron would go on a date with a farm boy like myself.â
Rachel pretended to consider it, resting her fingertips on her chin. Matthew couldnât help but thinking she looked adorable in that second, her dark brown curls tumbling off her shoulders, almost to her waist.
âI guess I could stand another night of you,â she said finally. Matthew gave a grin wider than the Pacific Ocean, kneeling in front of her, and pressing a light kiss to her knuckles.
âI was thinking we could go, sayâŚtonight?â he said, his voice still teasing and testing, causing Rachel to raise her eyebrows.
âNow? Iâm not even dressed,â she protested, but Matt just took her hand and started taking her to the door.
âMadam, the point of a date is not to look at each otherâs clothes,â he said, sounding a little bit like his best friend, Joe Solomon. Matt couldnât help but feeling slightly proud.
âI suppose so. Can I at least grab my purse?â
Matthew rolled his eyes. âIf you have to.â
âNow Iâm starting to wonder how I stood you for two months in Istanbul,â she said, grabbing her purse from off her kitchen table. She was currently living with Abby, so the house was kind of a wreck.
âHow can you not stand me? Iâm an extremely handsome man,â said Matt, his voice still elegant, but teasing.
âWell, for one your ego is the size of Canada,â she said, taking his hand as they walked out the door, getting into Mattâs car. He, ever like a gentleman, opened her door before getting into his own side.
âIâm hurt, Rach. Anyway, I was thinking we could go to the movies or something,â said Matt, his eyes still on the road.
âHow clichĂŠ, I was hoping for a five-star restaurant,â she teased.
âAnd you say Iâm bad.â
âI donât say youâre bad. I simply insult your ego,â she said, simply, as if it made perfect sense.
By that time they were walking into the movie theater, and he had casually slipped his hand into hers, and, surprisingly, she had let him.
âLetâs watch a chick-flick,â said Rachel, pointing at one particular movie poster. Matthew rolled his eyes, âWhat do girls like so much about chick flicks?â
âTheyâre cute and romantic. Maybe if you liked them a little more, you could pick up more girls,â she said matter-of-factly.
âI donât need to pick up girls, I already picked up the one and only Rachel Cameron,â he winked, giving her a chaste kiss on the cheek.
                                                                        ~*~*~*~*~*~*
âSoâŚRachelâŚI had this thoughtâŚâ started Matt slowly, waiting to see his girlfriendâs reaction.
âGo on,â she said, snuggling closer into him, her head burying into his neck. He absolutely loved the smell of her. She smelled like lilac, or roses, he didnât know the difference.
âWell, letâs get married,â he said abruptly.
âNow?â
âWhy not? Weâre in Vegas.â
Then she gave him that grin he loved so much. âLetâs do it,â she said, taking his hand.
And that was how, an hour later, Rachel and Matt were at the marriage license office at 3 in the morning, signing the papers to be husband and wife, Rachel in her best summer dress, and Matt in a tuxedo.
âMy parents are going to kill me for this. They love traditional weddings,â murmured Matt, signing his name on a few spaces.
âAbby is going to kill me, she always wanted to organize my wedding,â said Rachel, giving a laugh.
As they left the building, papers in Rachelâs purse, hand in hand, Matt grinned at his wife, and said, âWhat shall we do now, my beautiful wife?â
Rachel gave him a knowing grin, and said, âWell, thereâs this thing couples do after they get marriedâŚâ
                           ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
âSo youâre telling me, that in the three months I havenât seen you, you two went and got married in Vegas at three in the morning, took out a drug ring in Pakistan, and went on a mini-honeymoon? Anything else youâd like to tell me?â said Abby, sternly, after Rachel and Matt had finished explaining everything that had happened in Vegas and afterwards.
âWell, yes there is something else,â said Rachel, carefully, testing her words. Both Abby and Matt looked at her, Matt clearly having no idea what his wife was going to say.
She paused for three seconds, which her old C&A teacher, Madame Fauss, was the perfect dramatic reveal for something, and blurted, âIâm pregnant.â
There was a second of silence before Abby shrieked, and cried, âIâm going to be aunty!?â
âWait, so weâre having a baby?â was what came from Mattâs mouth.
But then Matthew grinned and rushed over to Rachel, picking her up and pressing a kiss to her lips. âWeâre having a baby!â
âIn 6 months weâll be having a baby,â clarified Rachel, looking at her hyper-active kid sister, and her awe-struck husband.
While Abby and Matt talked excitedly over the little one soon to be coming, Rachel placed a hand to her belly and said, âSee, baby? That didnât go so bad.â
A/N I honestly do think Matt & Rachel got married in Vegas during a random moment, so thatâs what I went with for this story, hahah ;)

matthewmorgan replied to your post: i really want to go back through my blog and just...
I know what you mean. Iâve definately had some posts that were misogynistic from back when I was younger. I donât delete them because I donât think people will ever go back through my blog that far so I donât bother.
EXACTLY!
For me, the misogyny is much more centered on my fb which is a real problem. By the time I started on tumblr, I was doing a bit better, so most of the stuff I want to delete is more just....stupid. And like, cultural appropriation.Â
(Mostly stupidity tho.)
And the problem is more that *I* know they're there so it bothers me.
I know you've answered a few questions on EDH rules as well as the "What is EDH" slideshow, but I thought it might be of interest to people new to the format, a "must have" list of cards for EDH and the reasoning behind them.
The problem with putting together such a list is for one thing, itâs totally subjective, and for another, it will vary a lot based on the budget the individual player is working with.
For example, here are some cards that land in almost every EDH deck I make (color permitting):
Sol Ring
Rise From the Grave / Beacon of Unrest
Duplicant / Phyrexian Ingester
Buried Alive / Corpse Connoisseur
Filth / Wonder / Brawn / Anger / Genesis
Eternal Witness
Darksteel Ingot
Kodamaâs Reach / Cultivate
Skyshroud Claim / Rangerâs Path / Explosive Vegetation
Shocklands
Terramorphic Expanse / Evolving Wilds
Rupture Spire / Transguild Promenade
Esper Panorama / Grixis Panorama / Jund Panorama / Naya Panorama / Bant Panorama
Oblation / Chaos Warp
Avatar of Woe / Visara the Dreadful
Avacyn, Angel of Hope /Â Spearbreaker Behemoth
Akroma, Angel of Wrath
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Engulfing Slagwurm
Sheoldred, Whispering One
Avenger of Zendikar
Sepulchral Primordial / Diluvian Primordial / Luminous Primordial / Molten Primordial
Evacuation
Mystic Snake / Draining Whelk
Gilded Drake
Frost Titan / Grave Titan
Strionic Resonator
Omniscience
Swiftfoot Boots / Lightning Greaves
Whispersilk Cloak
Archon of Justice
Blazing Archon
Nevinyrralâs Disk / Magus of the Disk / Oblivion Stone
Solemn Simulacrum
Clone / Phyrexian Metamorph
Mulldrifter / Shriekmaw
Tezzeret the Seeker + artifact lands
There are others, but you get the idea. As you can see, these are all over the place and do a lot of different things. Some of them are cheap commons, others are expensive and hard-to-find rares.
I consider this list my auto-includes because I have them, but does that mean every other EDH player needs to go get them immediately for their decks to be good? Of course not.
