i think you canât do a pacifist run the first time? i tried to, but couldnt not kill cowmom and ended up with neutral :c
i think itâs technically possible, but you canât get the true ending on your first playthrough! my logic there was basically âi want to be tough enough that i can learn the boss dynamics, and then once i know what to do iâll go pacifistâ. i ended at level 8 - spared every single boss, killed a handful of random encounters.
though... i accidentally killed cowmom - i didnât realize the hits would scale up so rapidly - and immediately reloaded the save like âIâM SORRY IâM SORRY IâM SORRYâ (flowey knew. flowey always knows. iâm gonna piss in his fertilizer)
On Killuaâs Independence
After reading this post by masthya, I put some consideration into the idea of the  Zoldycks as a homophobic family and the framing of Killua as a victim of homophobia.â¨â¨ That analysis makes sense at first, but the more I think about it, the more I feel that it ignores so many important parts of the story and characters, in many ways contradicting them. Special thanks to zoldycksquad420 for helping me develop and adding to these ideas! This would be a different post without you! :3 â¨~~ ⨠Most Asian cultures support collectivism over individualism. The Zoldycks similarly value family--the familyâs reputation, the familyâs preservation, the familyâs cohesion--over individual desires or goals. They value the family even over individual well-being (while also recognizing that they are linked). They see each member as having a duty to the family--a duty that sometimes requires self-sacrifice. They each have a part to play. By choosing his own path, Killua rejects not only their extreme actions, but also their values. Killuaâs independence is more representative of a larger cultural struggle between traditional collectivism and individualism in an increasingly globalized world.
He is caught between his familyâs expectations and the possibilities offered by another way of life. Claiming that Killuaâs narrative is one of homophobic victimization requires overlooking several important aspects of his character and his life. Focusing on Killua as homosexual suggests that his life revolves around Gonâthat Gon is all that matters and that Killua is without other ambitions or desires. Gon is an important part of Killuaâs life, but Killua made the decision to run away from his family and go off on his own (to the Hunter exam) before ever meeting Gon. He didnât do it to have a relationship with someone else, or even to âbe himself.â He left because he felt suffocated: âWho wants to have their whole life planned out for them?â His problem is with their strict control over the path that his life will followânot even with the path itself, but simply that he was denied any other opportunity. He never says anything about suppressing his personality or his essential selfâonly his freedom to choose. For the audience, Killua is a symbol of the pain and reward of navigating the area between collectivism and individualism. While it may be tempting to find personal meaning in Killuaâs (suggested) homosexuality, this reading erases the larger cultural meanings inherent in his struggle.â¨â¨ Placing the importance on homosexualityâa personal elementâis also a misunderstanding of the Zoldycksâ motives and values. The Zoldycksâ concern is with Killuaâs failure to adhere to their path, not with who he is as a person. Silva and Kikyo never have a problem with any of their childrenâs personalities. Actually, all of the children are allowed to find their own way to fit into the familyâall that matters is that they continue to satisfy the role that was chosen for them. Illumi inherits their parentsâ perspective. He consistently places the family before his own desires; he accepts their perspective so completely, his only desires remaining are those related to familyâseeking Killuaâs respect, appreciation, and dependence. Milluki pursues his own interests, but it is permitted because his desires donât interfere with the familyâs ability to function. He isnât impressive, but he does support the family (even if only selfishly). Alluka is impotent in her basement cell. Kallutoâs desires are unclear and perhaps undeveloped (what is the real goal behind joining the Phantom Troupe?), but they have yet to serve as an obstacle to the Zoldycks. Thus, Killuaâs actions are the only ones that interfere with the functioning of the family as a whole.â¨â¨ To the Zoldycks, sexuality is irrelevant. Killuaâs desiresâincluding sexual desiresâdonât matter. All that matters is that he resists any desires that contradict the familyâs goals. â¨â¨To say that Killuaâs independence represents his familyâs rejection of his homosexuality is to erase the much more important dilemma he faces between his upbringing with collectivist values and his exploration of individualism. While Killua becomes aware of individualist alternatives to his upbringing, the audience is struggling with the same problem. Rather than a triumph over homophobia or a coming out story, Killuaâs is question of how to achieve balance between his familyâs collectivist values and his own individualist curiosity.â¨â¨â¨â¨
