Fire Carrier arc of Dark Times was truly something (/pos). Like, why is it making me tear up in the worst then the best way possible
The fricking mass murder by dropping a shipful of civilians in the air. Horrendous. But the most brutal thing is that the younglings had to witness that. The contrast between their innocence and the extreme darkness of mass murder⦠ugh why batter my heart like this
Sidirriā¦yk I was having so many emotions when Master Zao was trying to comfort herābut her ending is just⦠ughhh reminding me so much of Depa Billabaā¦
OH YES MASTER ZAO. HEāS SO BACK AND ENLIGHTENING US AGAIN ON WHY HE IS THE BEST. AND SUCH A FITTING ENDING FOR HIM. I LOVE HIM YOUR HONOR
Speaking of which⦠Commander Teron. Straight up melting (/pos) when he mentioned hope, when he was offering KāKruhk shelter and supplies, because he still remembered, because he still cared. This part legit made me tear up cuz of the hopefulness in that scene. Argh I love this arc. And yeah Teronās absolutely goated
(His disappearance⦠I donāt know if he would eventually join the Rebellion⦠thought even if he didnāt, the glimpse of hope wouldāve been enough for all the Jedi there, and for us readers, and I am so here for that message)
And yeahā¦the theme of hope. I. am. so. not. okay. The way both Teronās aid and the wild menās help (and worship. Theyāre worshiping those who were one of the most hated out there in the galaxy and itās all because of the good tales of the ancient Jedi who were living outpost there) contributed so much to this theme, plus the end scene on Arkinnea ahhh. Absolutely love the ending.
This week's theme: the Force!
One of the coolest characters in Star Wars comics who has a profound and unique connection to the Force is Master Zao. He describes himself as a āleaf in the wind,ā and he goes wherever the Force (a.k.a. the Plot) needs him to be, always showing up at just the right moment to help his younger Jedi family. He is a cook who teaches with interesting food-based metaphors, and he even infuses his dishes with magic, so that their taste reflects oneās own state of mind.
My favorite relationship of his is with fellow alien master KāKruhk. Their respect and admiration for each other runs deep, and they make a powerful team as they lead a group of Jedi children through the horror of the early Empire. KāKruhk is strong, but vulnerable to fear and guilt, and his old friend helps him as no one else could.
Just look at these two Muppets. They are perfection.
āDark Times 6: Fire Carrier,ā Issue 1. Dark Horse. February 6, 2013. Writer: Randy Stradley. Penciller: Gabriel Guzman. Colorist: Garry Henderson.
āAs a Jedi, we have sworn to uphold the principles on which the Republic is basedā
āWhy --- when the Republic itself does not? Are Jedi meant to serve the Republic, or serve the Force?
My favourite Star Wars characters are those who embody these key traits.
Selflessness... Be that shown by Jedi Master Zao, who despite being old and blind goes out of his way to help those in need regardless of the risks to his own life in a hostile galaxy.
Bravery in the face of overwhelming adversity. Like that shown by Cal Kestis, who after losing everything and being alone for years, picked himself up and fought for something greater than himself alongside a new Family.
A belief in the inherent or learned goodness of others despite the crushing reality of a harsh universe weighing them down. Like how Daki, who, despite being injured, starved, betrayed and ultimately losing his life. Did so in the end to protect the people he cared about most.
Overcame great personal trauma, and uses it to instead bring about positive changes for both themselves and others close to them. Like Bomo Greenbark who after losing his wife and daughter, found the strength to carry on and reconcile with his friend Das Janir who protected him from emotional harm at a critical moment in his life.
Good people, who are good despite given every reason in the universe not to be make me feel good.

War is like waves crashing on the shore. All is noise; all is churned up. How, in all this noise, can Jedi hear what the Force tells us? You bustle all around. How do you know what to do? You strike at enemies when you should strike at evil.
