⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 29mm | 1/250s | f/8 | ISO 100 {Photo 1}⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 22mm | 1/250s | f/8 | ISO 100 {Photo 2}⁣ Both taken on 15/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ There's a saying in the Genovese dialect that goes:⁣ ⁣ "Né a mazzo né a Mason no levate o pelisson."⁣ ⁣ Which in Italian is:⁣ ⁣ "Né a maggio né a Masone non levarti la pelliccia."⁣ ⁣ In English it basically means that you mustn't take off your coat in Masone even in May, as a way to say that while the weather may be warming up along the Ligurian coast, it can get blustery and rather unpleasant in Masone.⁣ ⁣ But this Genovese proverb has taken on another meaning: that the rain always falls on Masone. That's because the Alps and Apennines protect the Ligurian coast from northern winds that bring in cold air—at least most of the time. And this means that towns and villages found in Liguria's hinterland are more exposed to heavy rain and strong winds.⁣ ⁣ On that basis, I guess I can count myself lucky that it wasn't chucking it down during my time there; though I got a few spits of rain here and there. But don't let the Genovese saying stop you from visiting Masone nestled among the oak and chestnut woods in the upper Stura valley close to the Turchino pass.⁣ ⁣ The snapshots you see in this post are of the town's historical centre situated on a high hill and separated by the Stura stream. It's got a small but rather quaint historical centre paved with cobblestones and whose exit is marked by a beautiful stone arch.
