American Studies at Yale University and author of A Regarded Self: Caribbean Womanhood and the Ethics of Disorderly Being (Duke University Press, 2021).
Maryse Condé (1934-2024) was a novelist, critic, and playwright from Guadeloupe. She was also an academic whose career took her to West Africa, Europe, and the United States: she taught at universities in Guinea Bissau, Ghana, Senegal, France, and the United States.
