Thank you @rrredgi for being my fashion consultant!💜
This is Part 1 of a series of illustrations where I want to show how I see the relationships between the main patrons of the Nightcap and my bartenders! These are Maro’s favorites and and a glimpse into how he feels about them ->
Peter
Peter fascinates Maro because he can see how much love this man carries within him. How empathetic and gentle he is even if it pains Peter to admit so. His strong sense of duty, loyalty and his will to protect are precious gifts Maro admirers. And at the same time they are painful reminders of something he desperately wants but isn't sure he's capable of having.
He wishes to love like Peter and be enough to be loved like that in return.
Wendy
Wendy is incredibly intriguing company. Maro recognizes her determination to shape her own future, though her methods are where he draws the line. Her boldness is something he can entertain and even adapt to, but trust is not something that should be placed in this bond.
It’s like dancing on the edge of a blade - dangerous, thrilling and unique.
Reece
Reece and Maro share a simple understanding: the world is boring so why not make at least some fun out of this shitshow? He loves how direct and honest they are when it comes to their opinions and he genuinely appreciates their company.
Maybe that’s why he finds himself wanting to get involved in their eccentric activities, he finds them strangely relaxing.
Clara
Maro sees Clara as his younger sister and cares about her deeply. She makes him feel like this what his siblings might have been like if they'd been raised outside the Family gates. It's a bittersweet thought but definitely a precious one.
Lacy
Father Lacy is unexpected company and an even more unexpected friend if you ask Maro. Given his background, Maro is far from religious but that doesn’t stop him from seeing parallels between himself and Lacy’s struggles.
It’s the same old care and love that Maro can sense in him. The desire to help him find his faith in community came naturally, though not without a few eye rolls.
Bjorn
Having grown up with an unusual number of siblings (and constantly bragging about their talents) Maro is drawn to stories about other people’s families and Bjorn is no exception. He was the first one not to question whether Maro’s stories were real because he could see that mix of irritation and care in his eyes, "you can’t fake that feeling of a family bond.”
Maro became genuinely invested in helping Bjorn’s brothers and can relate deeply to the struggle of loving your siblings while also wanting to strangle them for their life choices.
10. Does your OC have any physical scars? What is the story behind them?
Cecil doesn’t have any significant scars, just a few small ones here and there because he’s quite clumsy
I imagine Maro has a few large scars on his legs from practicing french boxing, but his face and hands are completely unscarred. The Family valued good looks and neat appearance in every member in order to present themselves as proper hosts, so they were taught to take especially good care of the visible parts of their bodies
12. What is the worst thing that has happened to your OC? How has it affected their behavior, health, and life in general?
For Maro, it’s definitely the fall of the Family. As I mentioned before, he basically had to learn how to exist for the first time without being given orders. In a way, he was like a newborn person, completely disconnected from his own body and identity
He didn’t know anything about himself and wasn’t even sure if he was capable of becoming a "real" person. But simply observing others and noticing the smallest things people do for themselves and each other is what kept him going. Slowly, he learned what kind of tea he likes, what colors he prefers to wear and even what kind of qualities he has. I think it was the first time he truly understood freedom and realized that he wanted to do something meaningful with it
Cecil’s relationship with his father is deeply traumatic, but if we’re talking about the worst thing that ever happened to him, I have to mention the new LNLC plot
LAST NIGHT LAST CALL SPOILERS
Unfortunately, Hugo’s death is going to scar him for life, both mentally and physically. For the sake of my headcanons, I refer to this version of Cecil as the LNLC version, while the version where he gets to live happily ever after is the BSC version, since it’s based on the best possible ending. That’s the version of older him I drew together with Maro here.
LNLC Cecil is much more worn down. After Hugo’s death, he struggles to find stable ground again and his health slowly begins to decline. He would probably become some kind of volunteer during the war, similar to Killian, not a soldier, but perhaps a journalist or someone who could make use of his writing skills.
I think he would want to continue Hugo’s legacy in some way, or at least preserve his memory, so he’d write books about the importance of maintaining peace. Maybe it’s a little naive, but it’s something Hugo would have agreed with.
After the war, he’s emotionally and physically exhausted, so he buys a small cottage in the countryside, similar to Bjorn and Lucas, and writes his stories there. Bukovie would remind him too much of everything he lost and returning there would still be too painful for him, so he chooses to stay away.
He still visits Maro from time to time, but it’s difficult for him not to become melancholic and trapped in his own thoughts whenever he’s in that city. It honestly breaks my heart to think about this version of him, but he’s still alive and you can see him slowly regaining part of his joy at least two decades later. Who knows, maybe the full game will eventually give me a reason to finally give him some closure after all
48. What would your OC do if they knew this was their last day alive?
I imagine neither of them would do anything particularly dramatic. They’d probably spend the day quietly, surrounded by pleasant domestic routines, good food, and of course plenty of time with the people they love.
And if it were just the two of them, that would be perfectly enough too. They’ve already been through so much together that spending their final moments side by side would feel like the most peaceful way to go.
25. What is your OC's deepest desire? Would they ever ask for this?
Maro’s desires are usually pretty simple so even his deepest one is probably just to feel like his own person. He struggles to feel whole as if he’s some kind of puppet or empty shell, so even being able to name his favourite colour or food feels huge to him. I guess he just wants to understand himself and it’s not something anyone can hand to him, he has to figure it out on his own. Still, he’s getting there.
For Cecil, I guess it’s more complicated. He’s idealistic so I can see him wishing for the world to be kinder and more fair, even though he knows that’s impossible. He wants the world around him to make sense, to bring out the good in people, and maybe, just maybe, to become worthy enough to make those changes himself. No one can really give him that either, but a man can only dream.
33. How does your OC handle jealousy?
Maro isn’t a jealous person, he’s perfectly fine with having multiple partners. What he can’t stand, though, is being lied to. He’s pretty good at noticing when someone is playing him so any kind of cheating is an instant dealbreaker. He’d much rather choose to trust his partner and deal with any obstacles along the way than waste his energy worrying or monitoring their relationships. He just doesn’t have the patience for that.
Cecil is more like a child who always wants to be included so his jealousy usually comes out as constant whining hahaha. He’s the type to give his heart and soul to his partner and that kind of devotion comes with a lot of vulnerability. He’s also terrible at hiding his emotions so it’s immediately obvious when he feels left out. It’s very much a “Why can’t I join?” paired with big puppy eyes kind of scene. Please don’t hurt him - he will cry.
43. What are common things your OC worries about?
Hmm I want to say Maro isn’t the type to worry too much, but the people around him keep him constantly stressed anyway hahaha. It’s probably a mix of worrying about how his siblings are doing (whether they need help or if they’re actually happy) and trying to stop Cecil from getting into even more trouble, because that disaster of a man can’t sit still for five minutes.
Cecil, on the other hand, couldn’t care less when he’s the one in trouble and would much rather worry about everyone else instead hahaha. But there is one thing that genuinely gets to him - he’s scared his books are too complicated and weird to actually sell well so he constantly rewrites his drafts. Which, of course, only makes it harder to find a publisher and start earning any real money. Maro already nags him nonstop for paying rent late so Cecil’s personal daily concern is basically figuring out how not to get his ass whooped.

[ 🫀 ]ㅤ.ㅤwho taught them what love is ? did it hurt ?
Omg that's a lovely question!
The "Family" organization mostly recruited orphans or children who were no longer wanted, giving them a new purpose in life — serving common people. The founder, known as "Father," was obsessed with the idea of unity. He believed that by providing education, teaching children how to defend themselves, and giving them purpose (a job), he could make them into one big… well, family. Older children were expected to supervise the younger ones within the strict hierarchy he had established.
Despite the harsh training, the children had nothing outside of this “family,” so holding on to each other became an unspoken rule among them — especially since Father encouraged the development of emotional bonds. So Maro had a close circle of friends. His superiors were kind enough to actually help him and offer genuinely useful advice.
But most of all, he formed a strong protective bond with the younger children. Whether or not it was a product of the Family’s design, Maro always felt a personal responsibility to take care of the youngest — and they did the same in return. They shared a kind of love you could wrap yourself in, like a stray dog trying to warm itself under a rug on a rainy day, or a litter of kittens huddled together without a mother. It was quiet but strong — a reminder of what truly matters. It didn’t hurt. It felt grounding, healing — something they all knew they hadn’t received enough of from the very beginning.
[ 📜 ]ㅤ.ㅤis there a story they love sharing with others ?
None of his stories are about himself— though he does try to open up more to those he likes, now that he no longer needs to hide his personal information.
Despite all the training from the Family to never disclose anything unless asked directly, he can’t help but brag when it comes to his siblings' accomplishments. They're all talented, and he sometimes slips, praising one of them and sharing small, non-sensitive details — like how one of his siblings has the most angelic voice, or how his youngest sister could throw a dagger dead-center with her eyes closed since she was five.
People lucky enough to hear these rare glimpses — but without any further context — often end up confused about how many siblings he actually has, and some even assume he's just making it all up.
[ 🕸️ ]ㅤ.ㅤdo they have a favourite lie they like to hear ?
I'm not sure if it's a question about his lie or other's, but if the second one, then it's when people swear they don't smoke or drink when the lil details in their appearance tell otherwise. Some familiar excitement that he found some clues to use later or simply have fun exposing them like with Killian.
[ 🧨 ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat’s the quickest way to set them off, even if they hide it well ?
Probably being cruel to children, he can tolerate the occasional grumble or sharp word, but any form of real abuse flips a switch in him—he won’t hesitate to throw hands (legs). Using children as bait is another hard line, it sets him off instantly. He’d walk straight into a trap if it meant getting a kid out safely. He’s also not a fan of being touched by overly pushy clients—though a quick flash of the hidden blade in his heel usually gets the message across.
[ 🪶 ]ㅤ.ㅤhow do they laugh ?
For some reason, I imagine his laugh is breathless, more like a wheeze than an actual laugh. It’s far from the graceful, composed way he was trained to sound like. There’s a roughness to it, like he’s not used to letting go that way. And if you really catch him off guard, you might even get a few snorts, but the joke better be good hahaha
[ 🗡️ ]ㅤ.ㅤwhat is a scar that they have but never talk about ?
Since appearance was something strictly maintained in the Family, he doesn’t really have any nasty scars—at least not visible ones, most of them are on his legs. Still, he often thinks about a potential one.
You see, even though there’s no real threat of the Family coming back—it’s technically gone—you never really get to relax. You always think about an exit strategy if you’re ever backed into a corner again (hi, Peter). So, if the day comes when any survived Family members try to pressure Maro into returning, he already knows what he’d do: ruin his appearance just enough to “damage” his value in the Family’s eyes. Nothing too extreme—just a clean cut across the face to leave a visible scar. And he wouldn’t even flinch doing it.
It’s not something he wants to do, of course. More of a plan B if things go really south. So yeah, not a real scar, but the one he keeps in the back of his mind.
26. How quickly does your OC reach their breaking point? What are they like when this point has been reached?
Damn this one is harsh 😭
Maro is a tough one to crack. He rarely feels emotions strongly enough to have a full-on meltdown, so I imagine his breaking point as something quiet. It’s more like slowly accepting defeat, feeling the last bits of hope and life drain out of him. He’s not meant to feel after all, just like he always feared. I think he dissociates a lot during his lowest moments. During his first year after escaping the Family, he was barely conscious and had to relearn how to function like a normal person. Almost like learning how to breathe again
It’s heartbreaking for me to even imagine Cecil like that, because you know how much love this boy carries within himself. He’s empathetic and compassionate, that’s both his greatest strength and his biggest weakness. It honestly wouldn’t take much to break him like a glow stick, just betray him! Throw that golden heart into the trash (or die a horrible death) and watch him spiral in a desperate attempt to understand why. It’s like his body is physically incapable of handling injustice, he’d literally start to wither away
32. How does your OC handle rejection?
Do you want to make me cry😭
Judging by the previous answer, you can probably imagine that Cecil doesn’t handle rejection very well hahaha. He’s a Yearner 3000, he doesn’t develop crushes often, but when he does that person gets the full package of his hand, his heart and every piece of him attached. It can be a lot so at first he tries to show his affection in moderation, just to see if he has a chance and minimize the damage if things go wrong. But the moment he feels like those feelings are mutual, he can’t help but give everything he has. And that’s exactly where he can get crushed like a bug. Please handle with care
Maro is more cautious. He knows what he has to offer and doesn’t take it personally if someone can’t appreciate it (We love a diva that knows his worth) Though when it comes to long-term relationships, he becomes much more vulnerable over time, especially if he feels safe and genuinely cared for. If someone shows him real love and then disappears, it would be hard for him to forget that warmth (cough cough, no one in particular ofc, cough pete-)
