It just stresses him out

And he’s rather not yell at you or potentially hurt you in any way

So he just stops working

But, when it’s all done and over with, he’s giving you one of those hugs that makes you melt and practically refusing to let go

He’s a big sweetheart, though

Maybe I’m going too far into this but Fulton’s entire character is being one of the edgy, tough characters. He’s part of the 90’s grunge scene and you bet your ass he’s fighting standards like Kurt Cobain was.
