Ren never meant to get this involved in the Inquisition. they just ... they just needed a place to sleep, to get away from all the fighting and the demons. and it was easy enough to help with the cooking or cleaning, to help with shipments or materials. but then Haven went and got buried under a mountain.
and now she ... blast it all, now she has to help. because they almost died, and the Inquisitor did die, or they thought she did, but then she didn't? and it's all a mess now but they have a plan and Ren can't just not.
Maker, though, she never should have asked Harding to tag along with the scouts. she never should have come to the Hissing Wastes. she'd heard ❛ Venatori ❜ and it had been like she was meant to go with them.
now, though ... Ren had just been helping the Inquisition establish camps in the area. that was their task ; run around the seemingly endless expanse of sand and ruin, find some good spots to hold the Wastes, and secure the area. is she truly surprised, though, that the first spot they found was teeming with Venatori?
one of those – those things, monsters, Templars corrupted with red lyrium, caught them by surprise. how they didn't see such a monstrosity coming she has no idea. but they didn't, and now everyone else in her group is dead.
Ren's lucky that @markbound was there, working on whatever important bit of business she has in the area. as it is, Ren is still bleeding, wounded, her entire right side a mottled mess of bruised flesh, shattered ribs and broken skin. she sits still as she's tended to, but she is scowling and tear tracks stain her cheeks. not for the pain – there isn't any, really, despite the obvious extent of the injuries – but for the people that were slaughtered.
❝ it's not the worst injury i've ever seen, but it's pretty bad. ❞
Ren looks up at the Inquisitor's assessment ( Lavellan? Fae? certainly she isn't meant to refer to her as such ... ) she sniffs, one hand coming up to swipe at a few errant tears. it twists her side in a way that obviously pulls at the injuries, but Ren doesn't so much as flinch.
❝ what's the worst you've seen that someone survived? ❞ it's a morbid curiosity, but really she simply doesn't want to think about, just ... everything. whatever happened.
