34 - QUE POURRAIT BIEN RACONTER CE PROJET ?
Et s’il s’agissait d’un livre abordant les rapports entre jazz et rock (et vice-versa) d’une manière enfin inédite ?
Mark Nauseef/Tony Buck — Mongrels (Relative Pitch)
Some discs assuage the ear even as senses are overloaded. So lush are the textures, so vivid is the recording and so completely is every tone allowed to sing that it’s as if a balm is applied. Mark Nauseef and Tony Buck achieve all this and more on this grittily transcultural endeavor.
Bill Laswell's opus travels through a variety of musical idioms, you cannot be surprised to find him in ambient, jazz or anywhere else. However, I might claim that he likes to work in environments, where he gets to mix different genres like on Near Nadir, which is a collaborative album of him, Ikue Mori, Mark Nauseef and Evan Parker. It contains the tunes that could be described as a concoction of jazz and electronica, though that description doesn't really capture the weirdness of them. While you keep waiting for the things to fall apart, it does not happen. They all manage to hold their disparate strands and engage them to cooperate with each other, which makes this album quite interesting, since you can sense the structure despite the looseness of playing.
