It works well because her older sister Valentina is quite laidback and show no promise in getting her job done. Semmelweis elder sister tried to control her in the beginning but later on Valentina is tolerant about her. Letting her do what she think is right and only appearing when Semmelweis need her help to tease her about it. If Semmelweis was asked about their sisterhood relationship, she'll say its like having a relationship with stranger. She don't know anything about Valentina aside from she's a powerful figure yet Valentina knows a lot about her. Despite that, she eventually found a peace somehow in their weird relationship especially later on she had the chance to pick her own seour next. She don't have to think about her elder sister anymore once she find one. She decided its Lorelei. She want Lorelei to be her younger sister. A religious catholic girl to the point others think she's mad. Semmeweis thought she might become a good influence to her since Lorelei singing voice is very relaxing. If Valentina only give her problem that she's confident she can deal, Lorelei give her a safe space to rest.
I finally finished Marimite and it was a fun series like no other. People said Class S Shoujo Ai is quite common but I think Marimite is the only one that done well in animation with many seasons. Also I don't understand why others think its bland. I really like the art style and animation. I never find it boring.
Believe it or not, them using french terms in their asian school might sound weird but as someone who previously studied in Catholic school, we also use some and even latin terms for school anthem, greetings or class name. I can't believe I really relate to them lol Even their sports festival and election is quite similar. Though my school is less strict, no sisterhood system and not girls school. Yet I formed most compelling relationship with girls because I belonged in girl circle of friends who excelled in academics/school activities even though I myself is a going home club type of student. So its not that different from Marimite school setting.
