Hypothetically right just like hypothetically and then again hypothetically... If Maven used Elara to brainwash Mare into staying with him instead of going to the Bowl of Bones what would happen
Reactions from her family, CAL, Farley and also his plans with her and how Elara would take her being there "for good" (or as his girlfriend)
Cal: Somewhere between grief and shell shock. He's still heartbroken from Mare's betrayal at the bridge, but not enough to want this fate for her. And deep down . . . he wonders why she was the one he chose to save. Why brotherhood was not enough for Maven, in the end. Regardless, he would still fight to rescue her.
Shade: Doing everything he can to counteract the impression that Mare is on their side
Farley: Not fully convinced that she's been brainwashed, but set on rescuing her nonetheless. It's a blow to have a Red speaking Maven's words, to have one of her own laying out his plans as if she was in true agreement. She's the first one to suggest a private rescue attempt, and the one to eventually plan it out.
Gisa: Similar to Shade, but quieter, sneaking away to study the broadcasts and trading silk pieces for information.
Bree and Tramy: Absolute panic that hardens to sharp resolve. They're not gonna let some barely crowned princeling do this to their sister, no matter how powerful Elara may be. They're constantly badgering the colonel to stage a rescue mission. Every time, they're denied.
Maven doesn't make her queen, he just kinda stashes her in her chambers like a doll bc he doesn't really wanna face her given what Elara is doing. Every time Maven is about to ask Mare be taken out of her trance, Elara abruptly changes the subject. It's bringing up a lot of old memories, and Elara has to spend a lot of time reassuring him that she loves him, and this is just more proof of that. It's a tightrope that, if Mare were lucid enough, she might be able to play to her advantage. Elara would very much like to get rid of her by pretending she died of an illness and spreading rumors about it being Evangeline's doing, but it's pretty clear Maven would start losing it if she did that. So she just keeps Mare in a trance and tries to keep Maven from visiting her and tells everyone else she's sick.
If Maven did visit her, he would feel absolutely hollow and empty with trance!Mare and beg that she be taken out of it. Once she was out, he would sweet talk her, pinning some stuff on Elara and maybe even admitting to some of the things she actually did to him. They might make out, she would argue with him, and she might be able to get some leverage for a bit more personal freedom at the very least.
Eventually, Maven wants to do his King's Cage routine (taking in Newbloods for the army, abolishing measures, etc.) bc he thinks it's the only way he can have both the crown and Mare bc Elara's hold won't last forever. Elara is very resistant to this because she is significantly more into overt blood supremacy than he is so any change in treatment, even to further other ends, is too much for her. At the end of it, Elara decides the only way to stop this nonsense is to kill her.
It does not go well for anyone involved.
