I kept thinking about next episode’s promo and how Marcus kept putting down Alex and Danny’s relationship because Danny didn’t understand how brilliant Alex actually was. I am going to protest this so fucking hard, I really hope Danny drags his elitist arse in the next episode like he did Alex’s mum.
I am looking at episode 1 again, and I think Danny not understanding that part of Alex’s life really not due to any failure of effort on Danny’s part. It is more because Danny sees that Alex doesn’t want to talk about it and fucking RESPECTS his boundaries. Danny had asked, in casual conversation, what Alex does. And if Alex was the kind of man who likes to brag “OH I AM A CHILD PRODIGY”, Danny would have heard it constantly. The only time Alex actually mention his young university days, he doesn’t actually look on it fondly. He doesn’t like his work that much either - talks about his colleagues as “hard to read”.
Alex cut Danny out of that sphere of his life because Alex didn’t actually like. He wanted to build a new life with Danny where the both of them can be HAPPY. So suck on THAT, Mr “My love is better than yours” Genius Maths Professor!
