93 til Infinity: Tiempo94 x Air Jordan Collection. As the Souls of Mischief classic 93 til Infinity was the soundtrack of my youth. Two other common factors were the Tiempo 94 & the Air Jordan. These shoes represent more than a pair of kix on my feet, they represent my life and my youth. They bring together two important elements of my teenage years.
As for the Tiempo 94 it is part of my football DNA for so many reasons. At thirteen I decided to choose football, over other sports. It had my heart & soul, It called me. It was then I got my first pair of good boots, my pops took me to the sports store ( I think it was Sydney Uni to be precise) where there was only one boot for me. The Copa Mundial was already a classic and a boot that gained you respect. But the swoosh had me at an early age. All black boot with a white tick, simple and classic. I picked up the boot and smelt the leather, it was genuine. I sat with my boots on at home in warm water, so they would mould to my feet. Then stuffing them with paper to dry them out. I did try other boots during this time, the Adidas Profi & Diadora Van Basten. But I always came back to the Tiempo. My idols at the time Ian Wright (a major reason I am a Gooner) , Paulo Maldini Rui Costa played with Tiempo's on their feet. So I wanted to be like them and play in the same boots as them. I remember we used to keep the tongues of our previous season boots and get the boot maker to attach it to the tongue of the next seasons boots. He would also sew on elastic so you could hook this underneath your boot so the tongue didn't flop everywhere. The bigger the tongue the better.
The Air Jordan was the shoe I rocked growing up. I played a bit of BBall growing up, I was not bad at the two spot. MJ was a super hero to us all, he was someone that has inspired every sportsman on this planet. Although I had a soft spot for Scottie Pippen, as he reminded me of Frank Rijkaard the Dutch footballer. The memories of watching the Bulls reign supreme was an opportunity to take in history. The Bulls championship domination will never be matched. I wore 23 throughout my career and wore baggy shorts as an ode to MJ. I walked to High School day in day out with my boys with Jordans on my feet. My Saturday football games meant putting on my club tracksuit with my Air Jordan's. As an adult Air Jordans are a status point. A common connection and respect when you see the Jumpman on someones feet.
