#marauders rant

a reminder that hating on canon marauders does nothing but make people feel like shit

arguably the most popular peter ships are gilderat and party/partyvan but these ships were started as jokes and are mostly just satire (this isnt bashing to isabella, salem, or the ships)

i’ve noticed that a lot of fans don’t take ships with peter seriously and kind of use them a running joke instead whereas wolfstar, jegulus, jily, and rosekiller have fanfiction as long as the bible written about them

i find it unfortunate that it’s so hard for people to admit that peter is an interesting character and is worth recognition in the fandom

but instead, if he isn’t being bashed for being evil (as if regulus, barty, evan, and bellatrix arent evil as well) hes treated like a joke and is made overly goofy and has no character depth

i find it interesting how the only plus sized character is the one with no fanon backstory, no genuine ships that’s arent jokes or stemmed from jokes, no fics centered around him and his pov

everyone wants to dumb peter down to the annoying tag along marauder that nobody ever really liked because they don’t want a fat person “ruining” their media

and of course that’s not the case with all people, but i don’t want to hear “we hate him because of the betrayal” as if there aren’t other characters in the marauders fandom who have done MUCH WORSE than peter that the fandom ADORES (cough cough: rosekiller)

i truly do believe peter gets so disregarded and so much hate from the fandom because he is fat and unattractive, i think the idea of a fat unattractive man (especially a fat and unattractive GAY man) makes a lot of people uncomfortable due to internalized fatphobia

I've been in the marauders fandom for so long and to see such behavior currently is shocking. There's people who cast the female characters aside to favour their made up mlm ships, people who instead of exploring the backgrounds and character of female characters in the marauders era, choose to give more attention and live to characters that are confirmed death Eaters(yknow, the wizard nazis). I've even seen people ship female muggleborns like Lily with death Eaters? What is going on?

And in regards to racism, you can't just headcannon a character as a POC without thinking about how it's going to impact their character just because you think 'it's pissing jkr off'. There's been a lot of Jegulus shippers who headcanon James as Indian/brown, and then make him act dumb, aggressive, obsessive etc towards a death eater who's portrayed as a yt skinny weak twink. As an indian person myself, this is not on, it's racist. Also Mary, someone who is now seen as a black woman is basically cast aside from the fandom as people don't know what to do with her character, instead she's used as a catalyst for wolfstar. When you do this, you are just as bad as JKR. It's not 'pissing her off', she doesn't care, she's a millionaire. It only harms the POC in the fandom.

Plus she’s friends with (or dating, depending on what you ship) MARY MACDONALD. You know she HAD to be cool.

Like SHUT UP!!! Lily is a QUEEN. Stop narrowing her down to just ONE of her traits- being a prefect who follows the rules more often than not. I’m not saying she doesn’t- but she has WAY better traits than just that.

can you please give me a remus who's short! whose body is WEAK and SMALL because of the constant transformations ravaging it (makes more sense than tall alpha remus...he was turned when he was FOUR. HE WAS FOUR. do you not think that the constant transformations would affect his development. omfg) give me a remus who's SHY because he's never been able to properly make friends because of the constant moving around?? give me a CANONICALLY QUIET shy maybe a bit snarky (he had to have been kinda funny to fit in with the marauders) remus.

give me a sirius who's flamboyant. who's STRONG and ANGRY and UPSET. give me a sirius who CAN SWITCH because he SO COULD??? i think sirius could definitely top? pls stop giving regulus's "uwu i love my family" traits to sirius 'cause sirius hated his family. he despised them. he wasn't constantly in need of a big sexy man to dom him and make him forget or whatever okay. give me a sirius who's PUNK and likes MOTORBIKES and fucking mcr or something. oh my god.

give me a wolfstar that isn't inherently heteronormative (big strong man x shy skirt-wearing bean?? nothing against sirius in a skirt i think it's cool as hell. but not if you reduce him to "o-oh remus🥺!" i think sirius could totally dom remus skirt or no skirt seriously...) and like. a lot of the time fem-presenting sirius is accompanied by alpha remus and his big strong muscles which is. okay :/ can i have skirt wearing sirius and our quiet remus please?

idk i just really miss the top punk sirius x soft remus days

OH AND

WOLFSTAR SHIPPERS. STOP MINIMIZING THE PLATONIC PRONGSFOOT. canonically sirius chose james over remus every time. sorry but it's true. james was literally everything to sirius, more than anyone else. i'm not saying you have to portray it that way, but at the very least have sirius's friendship with james be AS important as his relationship with remus. don't suddenly make remus the only one who gets sirius, the only one he can confide in, the one he always turns to.

Jegulus, I love the dynamics, and I love them as characters, so cute and some of the best fics ever written (IMO)

Rosekiller, yes, I'm guilty, but I love Evan and Barty, and I love even more EvanandBarty, two psychos 🤪

Pandalily, I want to see more of them!! Tbh, they are quite literally one of the only wlw ships I like (I'M SORRY)

Bartylus, I know what you are thinking, BUT past bartylus(!!), I love them. Obviously, I prefer Rosekiller and Jegulus, but they have a special place in my heart ❤️
