How to build a 4-ton, human-piloted, robo athlete
Click to enlarge – Jonathan Tippett/Furrion ❝ If Jonathan Tippett had his way, the Olympics of the future would showcase more than mere humans—he foresees human-powered robot athletes, too. And at a Toronto tech event this July, the Canadian mechanical engineer asked us to imagine racing events where pilots would embed themselves in massive exo-bionic mechs. Я твой слуга, я твой работник
I operate as a man-machine interface – that is, as a technological form of natural life – because I must necessarily navigate through technological forms of social life... Because my forms of social life are so normally and chronically at-a-distance, I cannot navigate these distances, I cannot achieve sociality apart from my machine interface.

Geek Chic Cinema is feeling all neon inside…….
So where to begin with Kraftwerk? My first album was The Man-Machine from 1978. I remember when it came in the post and I put it on spin. Within minutes I felt like I was transported to a retro-futuristic Tron film set just on the verge of a digital revolution. Floating off into an other-worldly cyberspace as envisioned back then. I listened to the album several times in a row and thought, wow, this came out only 2 years after the epic Hotel California album by The Eagles. Yet they sound like they’re from 2 alternate universes. One of the classic tracks on The Man Machine is called “Neon Lights.” Here is a live version from 2004. Yes, I admit that 4 men standing in front of computer screens pretending to do things with knobs is not much fun to watch. But at least they got it right by adding the visuals to help conjure up the dreamy atmosphere of the music. Reminds me of a time I was cruising through the center of Las Vegas at night with one of my close friends. There were neon lights galore. Tokyo of the West. Don't forget the miniature Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower. And yes, the car stereo was cranked up past 10. Good times people, good times.
