Here’s a video of the first electronic-based performance at our Fuelled By Female studio in the Higherford Mill Artist Community, which happened last Saturday. Mid-century modern tiki bar with 1920’s gramophone becomes 21st century DJ booth. Hannah Small with her lovely voice and not-so-small (larger-than-life) personality. Delivering spiritual and scientific lyrics as well as conversational small-talk over drum n bass, electro, house, & chillout grooves to a packed room full of fellow females, both in the frames and in the flesh. As Hannah so eloquently puts it, “Technically, this room is full of goddesses!” And I got elected to play the role of laptop DJ. Next week, I’ll be posting videos from my own set including new songs and new beats.

A couple of years ago, I was going through a house music production phase because Joanne St.Clair loves house music so much. I wasn’t really a big fan when we met but learned to appreciate it over time, so I started working on the creation of a house soundtrack for Joanne with music that I was also into myself. I love M.I.A. and the a*cappella was available for her version of the vintage Bollywood song “Jimmy Aja,” so she got the first and only proper remix I’ve done so far. Here’s the new cover for it based on a photo shoot she did for GQ magazine several years back. I’ve given the remix a new and better mix and remastered it and will be posting it to YouTube with the video later in the week.

I love M.I.A. because she's so different from everyone else that she'll never fit in wherever she goes because of it. That's what I cherish in an artist, regardless of their style of music or their particular medium. Some people will find her really fucking annoying because of it and others will love her for it. Thus is the story of oddballs all over the planet. And the world is a more beautiful place because of them.
