Do other arospecs have this thing...where you're doing something physical with a friend, for example walking while holding hands in public, and it's all nice and breezy but then you see people looking at you (because you're both the same gender, probably) and you suddenly feel uncomfortable because they probably think you're a couple? (I mean, really. Holding hands isnt inherently romantic, come on)
Iām aro, not arospec, so I canāt speak for others, but this sounds like 2 things: romance repulsion, which is something anyone can have, but is most common in aros/arospecs. if you donāt view smth as romantic, but someone looking at you does, it can shift your thinking temporarily, triggering that. also (in addition to or separate from repulsion) self-consciousness and the pressures of amatonormativity (and being uncomfortable with probable homophobia, no one wants to be stared at in public). I totally get it, my friends and I are veryĀ ālovey-doveyā and affectionate in our actions and words, regardless of gender or sexuality, but I personally get very uneasy if I act like that around people I donāt know, bc I donāt want to be assumed to be in a relationship. I know thatād make me immensely uncomfortable/embarrassed. from what Iāve seen, youāre describing a p common experience, so Iād say you can certainly find other arospecs w similar frustrations lol
so now that i am comfortable with my role as a redshirt it is time to direct my attention toward the core of my being and tackle the issue of not being such a damn therapist all the time
