I just saw a YouTube video tutorial that was a âguide to effortless lookâ makeup. YouTube has tons of tutorials on how to achieve a ânaturalâ look.
Women, our faces are our natural look. Youâre beautiful the way that you are. Nothing about a natural looking face of makeup is how you are âsupposedâ to look without the makeup. What do you mean is a nondramatic a makeup look, or a neutral-pallet makeup look. Or a not-too-overdone makeup look. But they definitely are not actually natural looks at all. If we all looked like that when we woke up the makeup industry wouldnât exist. Even when a Kardashian is posting a âno makeupâ face, sheâs wearing professional eyelash extensions and gets facials and skincare work done constantly. Marketing that to women as âeffortlessâ is just an impossible standard.
It strikes me as really insidious how ânaturalâ looks are marketed to women, as if we didnât wake up in our natural face as every morning. It is twisted and false to give you a makeup tutorial video that is supposed to help you attain effortless beauty. My effortless beauty is just me. Because to look like the girl in that video, I donât need to put forth effort, I need to put on makeup. And thatâs not the same.
So this is just been a quick PSA that the makeup industry is bullshit. If you like to wear makeup, thatâs great, but it sucks that we compare our actual natural faces to a makeup ânaturalâ look and then feel lesser-than or even ugly. Remember that youâre beautiful. You may not have perfect skin or love your acne or redness or dry skin or whatever, but you are beautiful and valuable, full stop.
So write that down and stick it on your mirror. Use some moisturizer and drink some water and take a quick nap and wear whatever colors you like and go for a walk and smile at your reflection, you beautiful radiant starfishes.
