" Truly, you of all people should know that I'm not the patient type Boy. When are you going to follow through on your end, or have you 'forgotten' yet again?"
A hand grips at Vio's face in an all to familiar and unpleasant way. Seems the being he made that deal Farore kept mentioning was most assuredly not who they'd thought they had. How and why the demon sword was the being eluded him. Hadn't he gone to a timestone altar dedicated to Khronos??
Glaring up at the demon blade Vio gritting his teeth glared harshly. " Why would I remember something done in a state of delirium? We've met before that, and you were quite apt then to comment on the fact that I-"
His face gets squozen harder the blades sharp talons digging in. The blade himself with his cracked face looking rather unimpressed at the attempted snark. " Silence. I was not done speaking brat."
Huffing as their face is still being held, he concedes to just look at the demon blade with murderous contempt in his eyes. With him just the slightest agitation could earn Vio's tongue being sliced out of his mouth.
" Regardless of what you may have thought you were doing in that Temple a few months ago. The simple fact is I'm owed a debt by you, and I fully intend on claiming what is mine. I've already given you far too much grace on that as it is." A bit roughly he turns Vio's head observing it some more. " I want you to get on with finding that stone tablet. After all you destroyed the one in the other future the moment you realized what it was for."
".... I destroyed it there because it was going to-!" Two fingers promptly get shoved into his mouth holding his tongue down. Given Vaati used to use the same method when he got mouthy before Vio tenses, beginning to shake in response to the action. He hates when others do this. Hates it! Hates it! HATES IT!!
Ghirahim scoffs starting to smile as he gets more of a reaction with that. " .... You've gotten easier to read since last time. I really should look at that little mouse's notes on you more often~! That reaction from you is delightful, it's been sooo long since I've gotten to make a hylian squirm like that! "
Removing his hand he wipes it on Vio's shirt, the hylian shaking as the demon sword steps away. His short cape fluttering as he walks.
" Now then, disregarding the fact you are being a petulant little thing. I want my stone tablet. If I don't get it soon, or I learn you've continued to disregard the one simple and menial task asked of you." He snaps summoning a swath of small blades all pointed at Vio. " I'll find other ways to have my fun. Besides as that pesky goddess already told you, this segment is doomed to drown in due time anyways. Is it some pathetic attempt to be noble and give those people a false sense they'll get to live that you've not found it for me. I'm well and aware that things in your head have been altered before.... Things you should know, things you should never know, and even things you knew once but now no longer do."
Taking deep breaths Vio eyes the blades warily. While Vaati was insane in his own right, Ghirahim was on a whole other level. Being the chosen sword of the original terror of the hylians and humans alike. The Cursed Blade of Demise, Lord of the demon's army, and worst of all to Vio now; The one he owes a debt to.

A gut-wrenching, metallic splitting noise erupts from the sky above Hauâoli, the sound of the fabric of time and reality being shattered. An alabaster glow forms over the city and spreads outward in all directions like snakes all fleeing the epicenter. Cracks in space and time.
A Wormhole Opens...
The terrible ripping and colliding of dimensions is heard for miles around, a looming shadow dropping from this mysterious hole in the sky. A terrifying Ultra Beast rears its gluttonous head and claws as it appears on the scene. A Guzzlord, terrified and starving now begins its rampage.Â
Strong claws rend buildings, turning structures to rubble with little to no effort as they shovel material into its black hole of a maw. None are safe and nothing is spared from its insatiable appetite.Â
Having fallen down and gotten back up to the correct room multiple times already. Vio just is annoyed some of his hair singed.
This time he is more careful and makes it to the room he'd been trying to get to all along. Though what he finds there makes him worry that he's to fall and have to climb back up, again.
Treading carefully as to not have to do this another time. Vio looks to the fire keese around the room with a groan. " I am never going to complain about the Forest Temple again."
Finally to the top Vio finds the source of all his current grief from Ghirahim. A stone tablet with instructions on a demon summoning ritual created some point during or after this Era's Civil War. With words that Vio himself could read, and had read once.
After all Ghirahim sending him to this specific time segment was do to the fact Vio'd not destroyed this one. Like he'd done to all of the others. But....That's why he'd gotten Sheik involved. As the current Sage of Time in the era, the pair could ensure this would never be able to get used.
Carefully Vio summons his magic aiming to the stone, ignoring the feeling of rot creeping into his very being the more he used the necromantic spells. This was sure to get him ire from the sword demon, but safety of this kingdom and others through Hyrule were the priority.
Finally, after all this time, Lilibeth reveals the truth about their son to Ric.
(major plot things because stuff happens to Ric, and new characters, and this is really important and I just alksdjfn)
For a change, Beth had invited Ric over to the forge for dinner that night, instead of her having to go to the camp. Sheâd cooked for him and theyâd sat together in the small room that she lived in above the smithy, eating and talking. But as the night crept on, things started to become more intimate, and as they stood with their lips locked together, waiting to move to the bed, Beth felt completely at ease in his arms, like always.
At least until he said it.
âLetâs make a baby,â Ric whispered against the hollow of her neck, kissing her skin hotly again.
âRicâŚâ she said quietly, but he didnât stop.
âPlease, letâs try⌠It wonât work, but I want to try,â he continued to kiss her neck, his arms around her waist, âI love you, Lili. And I want to have a family with you.â
âAnd what, Ric? Raise them in camp? Dress them in armour as soon as theyâre old enough? Send them out to fight the Imperials once they can hold a sword?â she couldnât look at him, or she would lose her nerve.
âCanât we just try? It wonât happen. Itâs never worked before. I just⌠I want it to mean something. Or are we just going to keep doing this until we either get too old, or I die in action? And then we have nothing to show for it. Is it so wrong for me to want a child?â
She pulled away from him, âItâs worked before,â she whispered, tears in her eyes.
âWhat⌠What dâyou mean?â he frowned.
âIâve been pregnant before, Ric,â she told him, not daring to look around at him.
âDid you lose it?â he asked.
Tears slid down her cheeks silently, âNot quite.â
âWhatâs goinâ on?â his eyebrows furrowed closer together.
âYou have a son,â she said quietly.
âHow⌠what⌠I donât understand,â he said, starting to get angry. He didnât know what was going on; what in Oblivion she was talking about.
âYou have a son, Ric. He must be nearly thirteen by now. You left him inside me, and then you ran off to join the Stormcloaks,â she said bitterly.
âLili⌠I didnât know⌠Why didnât you tell me you were pregnant?â he reached to hold her, but as soon as she felt his presence, she shrugged herself away.
âWhat would you have done, hm? Come home? Married me so that no one knew I was carrying your bastard child? You can really imagine how that conversation would have gone with my father.â
âI would have taken care of you. You and our child.â
âSo I was supposed to make you give up your dream of going to join the army so that I could force you into family life? You would have come to resent me for it.â
âYou know me, you know that I could never feel like that about you. You know that I-â
âYes Ric, I know that you love me. But you loving me isnât enough. It was never enough. You could love me when youâre off fighting some rebel cause, but it didnât stop me having to go through childbirth without you. It didnât stop my father from taking our son from my arms barely before theyâd cut the cord. I held him for less than a moment, and you loving me didnât prevent him from being taken from me and given to an orphanage.â She was shaking with rage by now, but the tears kept flowing down her cheeks, âI loved him, Ric. He was the most beautiful little thing Iâd ever seen, and I wanted to keep him. I wanted to raise our son so that one day, when all of this was over, when you could come home to me; I would have our beautiful little boy ready to meet you, no matter how long it took. That was my dream, Ric. I wanted that life with you, no matter how long I would have to wait, because I knew that you would come back to me. And you did. But our sonâŚ. Gods knows where he is.â
He couldnât hold back any longer and he pulled her into his arms, holding her close against him. She let him, burying her face into his chest as she started to sob into his shirt. Harsh, pained sobs came out of her mouth, her body heaving with the force of them. Ric didnât know what to do. Heâd never seen her cry like this before. She had teared up when he had left for the army, but she hadnât broken down like this, not his strong, beautiful Lilibeth.
âItâs okay,â he murmured, kissing her hair gently, âEverythinâs goinâ to be okay.â
âHow do you know that?â she whispered, her voice thick with tears.
âBecause weâll find him, okay? Weâll find our son,â he told her, taking her face in his hands and wiping her wet cheeks.
âRic, we canât just find him,â she said, voice breaking, âItâs been thirteen years. We wonât even know what he looks like.â
âWeâll know, Lili,â he murmured, âWeâll know him when we see him⌠Close your eyes and imagine him.â
She closed her eyes, sighing, âI donât know, Ric.â
âAre you tellinâ me that after all these years you havenât wondered what he looks like?â
Her chest heaved with another sob, but a deep breath kept it down, âHe⌠Heâs got brown hair,â she said, âSame colour of yours⌠And your smile⌠He looks like a mini version of you. But he has my eyes. Gods, Ric, heâs so beautiful.â Tears ran down her cheeks and he just held her.
âWeâll find him. I promise you. And we can be a family. You, me and our little boy. Iâll get us a house. You can work in the local smithy. Iâll find farm work, shop work, anythinâ.â
âYou⌠Youâd leave the army?â
âLili, for a chance at a family with you, I would leave the Stormcloaks without a second thought. Iâve given them enough. Theyâve had thirteen years of my service, thirteen years that I could have had with you. They will always be my brothers, but they wonât have my sword anymore.â
âI could never ask you to do that, Ric.â
âYou donât have to ask me. Iâve made my choice. I choose you and our son⌠And we will find him, Lili, I promise you.â
***
So, they started right back at the beginning. The following week, when Beth could finally get some time away from the forge, they made the trip to Riften, riding on the brigadeâs old horse together. Bethâs father had told her that he had given the baby to the orphanage there, so that was where they started their search.
As they walked towards Honorhall, Beth froze up, her hands starting to shake, âI canât do this Ric.â
He took hold of her hands, looking at her, âYes you can. I thought you wanted this, to find our son.â
âI do,â she whispered, âBut what if we donât recognise him? What if someone else has already adopted him? What if⌠What if heâs dead?â
He put his hands on her cheeks, âHeâs not dead, Lil. Youâd know, youâd be able to feel it. Do you honestly believe he is?â
She shook her head, âNo. But that doesnât mean heâs goinâ to be in there. My father could have lied to me.â
âHe would have brought him here⌠Iâm sure of it,â Ric said, then took her hand in his, âCâmon. We can do this. Weâre goinâ to find our son.â
They entered Honorhall and Bethâs eyes glazed with tears at the thought of her son growing up in this place. An old woman came to greet them, but it wasnât much of a greeting.
âAre you two lost?â she glared at them, âWhat dâyou want?â
âWeâre lookinâ for a little boy,â Ric told her, âAbout thirteen years old.â
âYouâre more specific than the usual people we get adopting kids,â she said, folding her bony arms across her chest, âWe havenât got many left after some big guy came in claiming he was the Dragonborn and adopted a bunch of them.â
âWeâre lookinâ for one boy in particular. He would have been raised here from birth. Heâs likely got dark hair and brown eyes⌠Might look a bit like a small version of myself,â Ric said.
The old woman looked him up and down and she gave a little nod to herself before quickly shaking her head, âHavenât had any kids like that. Canât help you.â
âWait a minute,â Beth said, pushing in front of Ric, âThis child was definitely raised here. Now there is something youâre not telling us. Where is he?â
âIf you arenât goinâ to take one of the other brats with you, I think you should leave,â the woman said sharply.
Ric let out a sigh, grabbing Bethâs hand and pulling her towards the door. They walked out into the street, and they suddenly heard a little voice calling to them. Beth looked up and saw the walled garden on the side of the orphanage. She jogged over, standing up on a crate to see over the wall. On the other side stood a little blonde girl with wide blue eyes, wearing a dirty dress and no shoes.
âThat boy you were describinâ,â she said, âAre you his Ma?â
Beth nodded, âAye, Iâm his Ma. I wanted to find him. Do you know where he is?â
The little girl smiled, âGrelod kicked him out a few years ago for puttinâ baby mudcrabs in her bed. He became a âpprentice to the smithy over there. He used to sneak us treats over the wall. He had to leave though. I donât know where he is now though.â
âThank you, thank you so much,â Beth beamed, reaching into her bag and pulling out a handful of coins and the sweetroll sheâd brought with her, âHere, itâs the least I can give you.â
The little girl grinned and Beth saw that one of her front teeth was missing, âThank you, miss!â
âWait,â Beth said, âWhatâs his name?â
âDanby, miss,â the girl told her.
Beth stepped down from the crate, looking around at Ric, a smile on her face, but Ricâs eyes were glazed a little with tears.
âDid she just say that his name is Danby?â he asked.
Beth nodded, âAye. Why? Donât you like it?â
âItâs not that, itâsâŚâ he let out a shaky breath, running a hand through our hair, âThat kid we get come to the camp sometimes, runninâ errands and doinâ some weapon repairs for us⌠His name is Danby.â
Beth stared at him, mouth slightly agape, âCould⌠Could it be him?â
âHeâs the right age, and he told me once that he was a smithyâs apprentice when he was younger, was convinced that he had smithinâ in his blood⌠Colby used to joke that he looked like me.â
âIs he at the camp now?â she asked, tears shimmering in her eyes.
Ric nodded, âHeâs stayinâ with us for a few days, been runninâ some jobs for a stall holder in the market, so weâve given him one of the spare tents to sleep in.â
âWe have to get back to Haafingar, right now.â
***
They entered the camp late that afternoon and as Ric saw to the horse, Beth walked quickly into the main camp. She stopped dead when she saw the young boy sat by the fire. Sheâd seen him in camp before, sharpening some of the ladâs weapons or just having dinner with them. He would ask her questions about smithing, and he would tell her about how he planned to run his own forge one day. He was sat eating a bowl of soup hungrily, mopping up the last of it with some bread.
Tears were streaming down Bethâs cheeks before she could even get close enough to him for him to notice. Her son. Her beautiful little boy. All grown up, healthy and safe. Ric stood beside her, pressing a kiss to the side of her head.
âHow do you want to do this?â he asked her.
She let out a shaking breath, âI canât Ric⌠I⌠I donât know what to say to him⌠IâŚâ more tears slid down her cheeks, but Ric wiped them away.
âIâll talk to him,â Ric told her, âYou just dry those beautiful eyes of yours. Youâre goinâ to meet our little boy.â
She smiled, âOur little boy⌠I could get used to the sound of that.â
He kissed her, âIâll go and talk to him. Come and say hello when youâre ready.â
Ric walked slowly towards the fire. He was about to meet his son for the first time. Except⌠it wasnât the first time. Heâd met him before, heâd talked to him, never knowing, never having the slightest clue, that this young boy was his son. He had always imagined that when he did have a son, that he would want him to be like Danby.
He took a seat on the log beside him, and the boy smiled up at him.
âI didnât know you were home, mister Ric,â Danby said, setting his bowl down, âMister Olf said you were goinâ to be gone all day.â
âI just got back,â Ric told him, âHad some business in Riften⌠Didnât you tell me you were from there?â
He nodded, âAye. I lived in the orphanage there.â
âDid you not live anywhere before that?â Ric asked.
âNo. I grew up there.â
âSo you donât know who your parents are?â
He shook his head, âGrelod always told me that they were dead, but I didnât believe her⌠But if they werenât dead, I donât know why I was in the orphanageâŚâ
âMaybe,â Ric said, moving to kneel in front of the boy so that they were eye to eye, âMaybe your Dad was a warrior, and maybe he had to go off to fight. Maybe your Ma got in trouble for havinâ you because no one approved of the warrior. Maybe she didnât have any choice but to give you up.â
âYou think thatâs true?â he looked at him with hopeful eyes, and for the first time, Ric saw the colour of Bethâs eyes in the boyâs.
âI know itâs true,â Ric said, âDo⌠do you ever think that you could have met your parents and you didnât know it? If you grew up in the orphanage, you wouldnât remember what they looked like.â
âI sâpose I might have,â Dan said, a frown on his young face, âDo you think I have?â
Ric looked at him, âYou may have met them lots of times. You may have done some jobs for them⌠talked to them⌠Maybe you even stayed in their camp.â
Danbyâs eyes went wide, his mouth falling open a little, âAre youâŚ. Are you sayinâ thatâŚ.?â
Ric swallowed nervously, âItâs me, Danby⌠Iâm your father.â
Danby was silent for a long time, just staring at Ric. Suddenly, the boyâs arms moved and he flung his arms around Ric, hugging him. Without thinking about it, Ric hugged him back, holding on tight to him. Danbyâs face was buried in his shirt, and Ric didnât let him do for a long time.
When Danby finally removed his arms, Ric saw that the boy had been crying. He pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and handed it to Danby who wiped away his tears.
âDo you know where my mother is?â he asked, his voice sniffly.
Ric looked around at Beth, âSheâs right over there, kiddo.â
Beth saw that she was being looked at, and she nervously walked over. Danby got to his feet and ran to her, hugging her as well. Lilibeth knelt on the ground and wrapped her arms completely around him, cradling him close to her, shushing him softly as he cried, unable to control her own tears.
âIâm sorry,â she whispered, âIâm so sorry⌠Oh my little boy.â
âDid⌠Did you not want me?â Danbyâs voice was muffled against her tunic, but she heard him.
She took his face in her hands and looked at him, âI promise you, I wanted you more than anythinâ. I loved you more than I ever could have imagined. But you were taken from me. I never thought I would see you again⌠But we found youâŚ. Your dad and I.â
âWhatâs goinâ to happen now?â he asked her.
âIf youâd like⌠weâre goinâ to take care of you,â Beth told him, âI know it will take some gettinâ used to, but I want us to be a family. We both do.â
Ric crouched down beside Beth and Dan, âWeâre your Ma and Dad, and we want to act like it from now on⌠Iâll find somewhere for us all to live, and weâll look after you. Like a real family.â
Danby nodded eagerly, a wide grin on his face. A family was all he had ever wanted. He had the two parents he only could have dreamed of; a soldier and a smith, and he knew that he would be safe with them.
âWeâll have to stay in camp for a while until I sort things out,â Ric pointed out, âBut after that, we can live in a real house, and things can be normal.â
âCan we get a dog?â Danby asked.
âYou can have anythinâ you want,â Beth grinned, âYouâre our son, and weâll do everythinâ to make you the happiest little boy on Nirn⌠You can even come and work on the forge with me if youâd like.â
âReally?â Danbyâs eyes lit up with excitement, âCan we go now?â
Beth laughed, âOf course, câmon.â
Ric got to his feet and watched as Beth and Danby ran off towards the road together. He had never seen her look so happy. This was what it was. This was the final side of her that he had been waiting thirteen years to see; her finally being able to be a mother.
***
âLili, are you sure you want to do this?â Ric looked at her.
âRic, I have never been surer of anythinâ in my life,â she smiled.
He glanced back to parchment and signed his name. She took the quill from him and signed it as well.
âThen I guess sheâs all yours,â Grelod said in a stiff voice, snatching back the contract theyâd both signed. The little blonde girl, whose name they now knew to be Fionne, that had helped them in the orphanage beamed up at Ric and Lilibeth.
âSo Iâm really cominâ home with you?â she asked.
âWe have a temporary home for the moment, but itâs wonderful there, youâre goinâ to love it. And soon enough, weâll get a house that we can live in. All of us,â Ric told her.
Fionne hugged Danby who was stood beside Beth, âWeâre a family now,â he smiled at her, âIâll race you to the market, Ma promised we could buy some sweetrolls.â
She giggled, and the pair ran out the door. Beth looked to Ric, âThatâs the first time heâs called me Ma without thinkinâ about it⌠I think heâs goinâ to be a brilliant big brother to her.â
âAre you okay with havinâ an adopted child? I know how much you missed seeinâ the first years of Danâs life,â Ric said to her.
She nodded, âJust because weâve adopted Fi, doesnât mean that she has to be our last. And she is perfect, Ric. Sheâs sweet, and polite, and I fell in love with her even after that short meetinâ at the orphanage⌠And I couldnât leave her in there. We can give her a better life than that.â
âWe can be a real family now,â he smiled warmly, putting his hands on her waist and kissing her gently.
âI love you.â
His heart skipped over a beat and he stared at her. That was it. The first time sheâd said it. After all these years.

Olf couldnât help but worry the entire ride to Windhelm. It had been a long time since heâd been to the city, and it was usually with the whole brigade. But it was just he that had been summoned, no one else. Once the city was in sight, he stopped his horse and changed himself out of his travelling clothes and back into his armour. It safe to be seen in it now, so close to the city.
He led Misty into the stable and frowned a little at the horse in the stall beside her as he unsaddled her.
âDĂťrion?â his brows furrowed together as he recognised the black stallion. The horse nickered at him and leaned his head over the stall, sniffing at Misty, obviously recognising her from days in camp. âWhat are you doing here?â Olf asked, âMore importantly⌠why is Rowena here?â
Clearly worried now, he headed away from the stables and walked briskly across the bridge. The guards opened the gates for him and he made his way towards the Palace of the Kings. If Rowena was here then something must have been seriously wrong. If they were calling upon old soldiers to come back⌠Perhaps the war wasnât going as well as he presumed it was.
He entered the Palace and saw Rowena and Galmar both stood by the throne, talking with Ulfric. The Jarl chuckled at something Rowena said. Olf walked closer and he started to overhear the conversation.
âSo the twins are growing fast?â Ulfric asked.
Rowena nodded, âAye, sir, next thing I know, Iâll be taking them out hunting and theyâll be big enough to spar with each other.â
He laughed again, âThatâll be a sight. You will have to bring them to the Palace next time you visit Ralof.â
She nodded, âI will.â
They all looked around when they realised that Olf had joined them. Rowena smiled at him, but it only confused the Nord more. He stepped forward and knelt before the throne.
âMy Jarl,â he said quietly.
Ulfric gave him a nod and Olf got back onto his feet.
âIt has been brought to my attention that the Haafingar camp has been without an Officer for nearly a year now,â Ulfric said, âNow that your former Officer has assured me that she is in full retirement now after her maternity leave, I have decided that it is time for a new Officer to be appointed.â
Olfâs heart leapt up into his throat. Was he suggesting what he thought he was suggesting?
âIâve put lots of consideration into it, due to the excellent service of all of the men in the Haafingar camp, but under the advice of Rowena, I believe that you are the one that should lead your brothers in arms,â Ulfric said, âYou are an exemplar soldier, Olf. You have served the army well, and are one of our fiercest warriors. You are a true Nord, and I would be honoured to count you among my Stormblades.â
Olf just stared at him for a moment or two, unsure what to say. When one of them got promoted, he was certain it was going to be Ric, he had been there the longest. He had never thought for one second that it would be himâŚ
âI⌠Thank you, my Jarl,â Olf said, realising that he hadnât spoken in a while, âI am honoured.â
Ulfric looked to Galmar who had Olfâs new armour in his hands. He handed it to Olf and Rowena laughed a little at the expression on Olfâs face when he saw that the normally brown bear pelt that was attached to the armour was in fact a snow bear pelt. He looked around at her, âIs thisâŚ?â
She nodded, âAye, thatâs your snow bear pelt. I got Colby to send it to me.â
Galmar hummed a little, âThere must be something about that blighted camp. It had the first elf to ever wear the bear armour, and now it has the first Officer with snow bear armour.â
âThere is definitely something about that camp,â Rowena smiled.
***
Olf and his former Officer left the Palace and walked slowly towards the stables together.
âSo come on,â she said, âHow does it feel? Has it even sunk in yet?â
âThat I am suddenly in charge of the runninâ of the camp?â he looked at her, âItâs dauntinâ.â
âOlf, since I left, youâve practically been running that place anyway,â she pointed out, âUlfric asked me to Windhelm for my advice on who he should promote, considering that I know you lads the best and. There was no doubt when I chose you.â
âWhat about Ric?â he asked.
âRic is a brilliant soldier. But he isnât a leader. Youâre a leader, Olf,â she told him, âI would gladly have followed you.â
âYou were a good Officer,â he said, âIâve got a lot to live up to.â
âYouâll fill my boots easily,â she smiled, âJust keep doing what youâre doing. They respect you, and they all love you like a brother. That camp⌠itâs a family, itâs a home⌠Youâre just the head of the family now.â
âI guess I like the sound of that,â he looked at her with a smile on his face.
They parted at the stables with a big hug and a promise of visiting each other soon.
âIâll have to come and inspect that you havenât burned my camp down, Officer,â she laughed.
