I wanted to make a mold of my feet. I was shown how to make a mould by chris, one of the technicians. You create a base to hold the liquid, we used cardboard and a hot glue gun. We also created a barrier to use less alginate. The liquid sets in four minutes, you then mix up your casting powder and pour it into your mold, the casting powder takes 45 minutes to set. I had to catch a bus so I dont have any pictures of it yet. I am planning on making one for my left foot next tuesday. I'm really looking forward to developing my work through sculpture and experimenting with different materials.

We are constantly disconnected from nature as we wear shoes all the time.

I have been researching the benefits which includes neutralizing free radicals, improving sleep, pain management, stress, inflammation and immunity.

There seems to be a social stigma of being spotted without shoes. And despite shoes giving people problems with their feet we still wear them all the time. It feels so good to take my shoes and socks off at the end of the day, so why not feel that relief and freedom more.

Anywhere I go I always want to dip my feet in the water or throw myself in even though I can't swim.

Connecting with nature this way makes me appreciate it more and feel more connected.

Large scale Map

I drew a large scale Map showing my home town, Lismore, vs Limerick city using inks and paintbrushes.

Recently moving from lismore to Limerick has been an extreme change for me personally.

One of the major differences I've found stressful in the city vs Lismore is the difference in population density and noise.

I feel disconnected from nature in a highly populated city with no forest areas I would normally have outside my front door at home. In Limerick so far I have seen planned parks and rivers by busy traffic.

My anxeity and stress has increased since moving and I think it's probably due to a drastic change in my environment.

I made a mold of my left foot using the algenate and plaster again, which I really enjoyed doing.

Now I have a complete pair which I plan on taking pictures of in various spaces. They are not perfect, one toe is missing, but I am very happy with how they turned out

I also tried using liquid latex on the pieces I made in clay last week.

I am looking to this video for dance and religious symbolism references.  The ferociousness with which Wolfe directs and creates these scenes of intensity, these are the emotions I connect to.  I want to incorporate dance and performance within my documentary with the same urgency and intensity.  To tell the ‘truth’ as much through movement and emotion as with dialogue and anecdotes.  I want to create a feeling for my hometown ‘Goole’ of it’s journey as a run down Northern Post Industrial site, closely entwined with Olive Hunt’s personal story.  Olive lived and died in Goole, her community and the people she supported were her drive. Olive Hunt’s religion, her spiritual guidance was offered in part through her beliefs in Native American cultures.  In mysticism and the unknown.

The mix of archive and performance in this film is incredibly exciting and dynamic filmmaking.  Such a powerful exploration of blackness.

It is not only inspiring creativity but leaves me with further questions on the mix of Native American culture within my film based on Olive Hunt in Goole.  I want to approach the Native American culture with great sensitivity, creating with an ethical eye.  

I am continuing further research into Native American connections to East Yorkshire to tie to Olive Hunt’s interest in the ‘Wild West’.
