Our story begins in a depression-esque era, here we meet Eurydice. An orphan, a poor “ hungry young girl” and “ runaway from everywhere she’s ever been.” constantly on the road, moving from one town to another, never settling in one place, living on what little savings & possessions she has for shelter and sustenance. she’s streetsmart & practical. a no nonsense kind of person with a hardened and cynical perspective of the world around her, she’ll do whatever it takes to survive.

somewhere in between, Eurydice meets Orpheus. an idealistic songwriter who “sees the way the world could be.” and breaks down her walls. amidst the harsh climate, trials and tribulations they fall for one another. unfortunately, it’s clear that the world they live in is not getting any easier and to make matters worse, a storm is coming.

Eurydice meets a mysterious man named Hades and is tempted by his promises of escape from the hardships of life she’s currently facing. Regardless of distraught feelings she has of leaving Orpheus behind, she travels six feet underground with the hopes that she’ll never be hungry again. However, she quickly discovers that being in Hadestown is not all it’s cracked up to be.
