Name one of your favourite novels?
The Lord of the Rings, definitely, then all works by Fred Vargas, which is a "detective story" writer, and definitely "l'Écume des jours" of Boris Vian, a love story !
Do you enjoy poetry, and if so is there a particular poet or poem that you prefer?
I really love it. I love the good old French classics, but Paul Verlaine is above all in my mind.
A poem that will always stuck is "Demain, dès l'aube" written by Victor Hugo (the one who wrote "Les Misérables" and "the Hunchback of Notre Dame").
Do you have a short story that you are particularly fond of?
"Sweet Thursday" by Steinbeck always brings me joy. I could read and reread it. It's just so vivid, and colourful...
On another note, "le Chant du Troll" by Pierre Botterro, is another of my favourite, and is filled with poetry and sensitivity. It's the story of parents creating a whole fantasy universe for their little girl dying of cancer. The book is also illustrated, which makes it unique. (And even more heartbreaking)
Do you have a favourite play?
Not really... I often see plays, but I just don't read them. I saw 1984 and "ten little niggers", that were beautifully adapted, but they come from books, so...
Out of novels, poetry, short stories and plays, which type of literature do you prefer and why?
I don't think I could choose one... (excluding plays) Most of my favourite authors (Tolkien, Hugo, Vian, Bottero) actually write all of them, and it's what makes them special. You can recognize their poetry seeping in their novels... It's a work as a whole that cannot be separated.
Which do you like the least, and why?
As I said, I don't really read plays, but I cannot say I like it least, because I don't really know it.
