The Redwall series of books use the word "pong" frequently or the insult "pongo" and apparently this is a Britishism for something smelling bad, which US readers would have no context for and I'm still frustrated about it

Also, in the eponymous first book, Clooney is described as being /potentially/ a "Portuguese rat" but neither Portugal, nor any human civilization, are shown to exist.

And furthermore, Clooney also enters the greater

Mossdeep area on a horse drawn carriage carrying 500+ rats. This indicates that the proportional size is rats to horses is likely equivalent to that of the real world, but the existence of horses is never brought up again, despite the events being canon. Where are the horses of the world? We have Deepcoilers and eel monsters and actual prophetic magic (the secret prophecy room in Salamandastron, anyone??) but can't have horses?
