An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride - 07
An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride
Oh! It does have a cute nickname
Madome
Incredibly well researched. The only problem is the lack of hearths. And the fact that modern Japanese Hamburger Steak didn't exist in the medieval era.
Slavery is a touchy subject for modern stories, because it's bad, but it happened. Often times it will be attached to the Evil faction to prove how evil they are.
Here, no. Slavery is real, like it or not. The protagonist doesn't like it, but he's not exactly in a position to do anything about it.
Sorcerers are also real, and very well researched. It's basically what medieval sorcerers thought they were doing.
Sorcery isn't necessarily evil, but it's not good, and to learn it you have to associate with demons. Or associate with sorcerers that learned from demons. Naturally, the church isn't fond of them, but there isn't any sort of sorcerer's guild to keep them in check.
The protagonist is basically a Nichola Tesla of sorcerer. He has focused so much on his magical research that he honestly doesn't know how to interact with women. Or know that food can be enjoyed rather than rote nutrition.
He goes to the estate auction of a dead sorcerer that claimed the name Marchosias. One of the 13 Arch(sic)demons. His greatest prize was an untouched Elf slave that would be perfect to sacrifice for some high and mighty ritual. The protagonist falls in love with her and buys her.
The protagonist isn't evil, and actually has a moral compass, but has never practiced it. He started out as a street urchin that had to steal to survive, and his profession doesn't lead to any sort of positive association. But trying to make his Elf slave feel more comfortable forces him to act on his morals.
The Elf is apparently cursed, with a collar that seals her magic, and has been a slave since a young age, so being treated well is not something she ever imagined. She was honestly expecting to be sacrificed in some great ritual.
The protagonist hates the idea of using sacrifices. Not just for moral reasons, but because diligence will provide more fruit in the long run. Think Bioshock.
To sum it up, it's basically Beauty and the Beast. Which is still fodder for compelling storytelling.
