No wonder I appreciated the sound of this Nagaoka N97ED replacement stylus for Shure cartridges!

I recently discovered it is a nude elliptical tip on a telescopic cantilever shank.

I paid almost nothing for it just to test if a Shure Me97HE Encore body I got for free was working. One of my best Hifi bargains ever.

This led me to appreciate Shure cartridges more so now I’m running a wonderful Shure M97 Era IV body with this Nagaoka replacement. It is not hyper elliptical as the M97 could require, but it sounds amazing!

Strange couples... I bought a Shure M97 cartridge body. If suited with an N97HE hyperelliptical stylus it is one of the best cartridges of its kind. But it came with a more recent N97xE stylus, which has an elliptical profile. It was a very good price, cart and stylus cost usually much more separately. The blue labeled stylus does not fit well the shape of the M97, but it is compatible and the sound was good. I had a N97ED stylus from Nagaoka, an official replacement for this cart but still only elliptical shape. It sound way better and cost me almost nothing!
