The events and personality of the second and third game make so much more sense when you consider when Boss first wakes up from the coma, they’re probably in unimaginable agony from mishealed bones and nerve damage from the fire with no real access to good medication or diagnoses in the beginning. And then they become the leader of a gang and cannot show weakness, so them acting out more and more aggressively and unhinged makes sense the more they do and the less they rest because of said chronic pain and their inability to really cope or have a name for it. ON TOP of losing people close to them and dealing with the grief of it all with no break.

Then when Boss is more relaxed and lenient in the third game, it makes sense to me. Because they’re rich now. They have access to the best doctors and pain medicine money could buy, they’re not in as much pain and way more approachable and can think clearer without the backdrop of agony and sheer anger at having to deal with enemies and traitors while in pain. They still deal with it while they fight, but at that point it’s most likely something they’re used to. Not ideal, but medicated and properly handled, or as properly handled as a gang leader can allow.

… then again with the fourth game and the events, it would be extremely difficult to get medication for it since you know. Earth. But maybe Zin have tech or some sort of substitute for it?

I dunno. It’s just as someone who had people I loved with chronic pain and seeing how they reacted some days depending on how bad it was with no access to medication, it’s just something I can’t stop thinking about.
